My name is Katherine Maddox, but everyone calls me Kat. I have medium length straight brown hair and a tan skin tone. I'm not your typical high school girl. First of all I HATE shopping, I would rather walk barefoot, and I'm not boy crazy. Well I used to be but that was middle school and I would rather not re-live the past.
Today is my first day as a junior! Just two more years in the hell hole that is known as school. I know high school is supposed to be fun in the movies, but this is reality! There are no fun and games, it's work, work, and oh guess what? More work!
"Bye mom!" I yell as I walk out the door to my old Camry.
"Bye sweetie, love you!" she yells back.
Five minutes later I pull up into one of my best friend's driveways. "You ready girl?" asks Mackenzie Brewer. Mackenzie has medium length curly dark brown hair with a darker skin tone than me because of her Hispanic heritage.
"As ready as I 'll ever be." I reply.
The next thing I know I'm listening to a country song. I absolutely despise country music. "Why do you listen to this shit?" I ask Mackenzie.
"First of all it's not shit, and second of all you can't be talking with your weird punk obsession!" she argues.
"It's not weird, it's awesome!" I say offended.
"Whatever." she says as I change it back to my radio station.
I was so distracted by our argument that I completely missed the turn to get to my friend Blake's house. "Nice going Sherlock." Mackenzie teases.
"Shutup." I say in a small attempt to defend myself.
I make a quick U-turn and pull into her driveway.
Blake runs out of the house and jumps in the car. Blake Jones has brown, long wavy hair and the same skin tone as me. All three of us have the same shade of brown eyes, although mine sometimes turn a golden brown in the sunlight. "You better drive fast otherwise we are gonna be late." she says quickly and out of breath. As soon as she says that I look at the time and realize that I have five minutes to get to the school before we are officially late. "Shit." I mutter under my breath.
Thankfully we make it to school on time and rush into our homeroom class with Mr. White. Mr. White is a cranky old man who should've retired years ago. He hates everyone therefore everyone hates him. It's a pretty simple hate-hate relationship.
We quickly find seats in the back corner where it will be easier to talk without getting noticed.
"Anderson?" "Here." "Brewer?" "Hi Mr. White." Mackenzie says in a sugary sweet tone. A few names down the role he says "Jones?" "Yea I'm here." Blake says. "Maddox?" "What's up." I answer. Mr. White finishes role and everyone resumes what they were doing.
"Hey I hear there's a new guy!" Mackenzie says excitedly. She's the flirt in our little trio so naturally she would be excited about fresh meat.
"Really? Why would anyone move to the small town of Adams, Tennessee?" asks Blake.
"Yea we would know since we can totally read minds." I say sarcastically.
I glance at the clock and see that we have a little less than ten minutes left, so I decide to escape this conversation and go to the bathroom.
I walk up to the front of the classroom and say "Mr. White may I go use the restroom?"
"Sure." he answers.
I walk out of the classroom and head to the bathroom. When I am finished I walk out and pull out my phone to see how much time I have left. As I am looking down I run into something solid and I immediately feel a spark of electricity. Or should I say someone. I look up into the most gorgeous pair of green eyes I've ever seen. I can already feel myself blushing.
"Oh my gosh I'm so sorry!" I finally manage to stutter.
"It's fine. I'm Alex Turner by the way. I just moved here." he says.
Alex stands about a couple inches over six feet, he has amazing black hair that looks like he just rolled out of bed with and it just barely falls into his green eyes. He has on a tight fitting black t-shirt and some ripped jeans. You can tell that he works out and has an amazing body. He could easily be a Calvin Klein model.
"I'm Kat." I introduce.
"Kat? That seems a bit unusual." he says. "But in a good way." he recovers before I can get offended.
"Yea it's short for Katherine. Do you need help with anything?" I ask as I notice him glancing down at his schedule.
"Uh yea, do you know where Mr. White's room is?" he asks a little embarrassed.
"That's actually where I was headed. Just follow me." I say as I start to walk down the hall to the classroom. "When did you move here?" I ask.
"I actually moved at the very beginning of summer, so I had a chance to meet a few people. I actually ended up joining a band halfway through the summer." he answered.
"Oh that's cool! What instrument do you play?" I ask just a bit curiously.
"I play guitar but I'm also the backup singer. But our lead singer just bailed on us so we have to find a new one." he says sadly.
"Well good luck with that." I say as we get to the classroom.
We walk inside and everyone stops what they were doing and stares. I quickly say bye to Alex and walk back to my desk. Mr. White has Alex introduce himself to the class and tells him to find an empty seat. Alex finds an empty desk, which just happens to be right beside me. He doesn't take his eyes off of mine the entire time he walks to the desk and I can feel myself blushing. Alex sits down and gives me a small smile. I feel a tug on my arm and turn to look at Blake.
"You WILL tell us what happened between you two at lunch right?" she pretty much demands.
"Yea sure." I sigh defeated.
"Katherine?" I hear Mr. White call. "Yes?" I ask.
"Since you and Alex already seem to be acquainted can you show him to his classes?" Mr. White asks. When he says that I look at Alex out of the corner of my eye and notice that he is smiling.
"Uh sure." I answer.
What did I just get myself into? I can't even look at him straight without blushing. I will definitely make a fool out of myself.
