Raging Ember: Paradigm trilogy

Prologue

     

Hello readers, I just wanted to thank you for giving my new trilogy a shot. This chapter will be the prologue, however the next update will be next Thursday as promised. Other than that I hope you enjoy, and please comment and vote!

Ten years ago ...

"Ember, Ember wake up. Hes found us. "

My father says shaking me, I get up dazed and confused. "Dad, whats happening? whos found us? "

Without saying anything he pulls me from my covers, and rushes to put on my shoes and clothes. It is then that I start to hear a loud banging coming from downstairs.

I look up at my father worriedly, his brown hair is messy and his normally calm blue eyes frantic with concern, and red from tears?

"Dad, your scaring me. I look around Wheres Mom and Daniel? "

Suddenly a sob breaks from his lips "they're gone honey, and right now I need to keep you safe."

I look at him shocked "What do you mean gone? Dad answer me please... "

He grabs a backpack from the closet, within it is some money, clothes, and food. He then puts a large letter in the front pocket. He puts the back pack on me then pulls me through my bedroom door, and down the stairs towards the back.

We run out into the woods that are connected to the backyard, then suddenly I start to hear shouting and a loud male voice ordering someone behind us.

Whispering quietly, he says "Keep running Ember, dont look behind you... I am so sorry honey, we wanted to wait to tell you, we thought we had time."

scared and frustrated I ask "Tell me what? Please dad. "

slightly out of breath he exhales "Our family is special Ember, and because of that a bad man wants us. I can't explain fully but I left a letter in the front pocket that will tell you everything. "

He suddenly stops running, we are near some tall trees when we hear a branch break.

My dad ducks and pulls me down with him; then puts his hand lightly over my mouth to hide the labored breathing.

We see a large man with dark features come into view, with a long scar running across his eye. The man tilts his head up and sniffs the air, then sneering speaks.

" I can smell your Dracai blood, Nathaniel. As well as your pretty daughter."

My dad inhales, and the man continues to speak "You know what we want, just give us the girl and no one else has to die."

My dad turns to me with tears in his eyes, he kisses me lightly on my head then leans down to my ear and  whispers quietly.

"Remember that I will always love you Ember... now I need you to be a brave girl and do something for me ok."

I nod my head sadly; he reaches his lips to my ears and says "Run! "

Hey there readers, this chapter was about 500 words. But that's only due to this being the prologue.As I said before upcoming chapters will range from 800 to 1000 words. And following updates will be every Thursday. Anyway I hoped you enjoyed ,and cant wait to see more about Ember and what happens next!
