We stare at each other, his green eyes piercing into mine from the top of a small shed where I often come to feed stray cats. Although human his features slightly reminded me that of a feline, dark green eyes, feathery hair and sharp canines as he practically hisses, before rushing over the wall and away from my sight.
I stood there completely dazed, only snapping out of it when the meowing of a black cat with green eyes rubs between my legs, I've named him Jace. Soon he was accompanied by a black and white adorable little thing with blue eyes, who I called Elsa.
As usual I lay down a tin of tuna and filled it with milk the moment they finished eating. I adored cats, but my boyfriend was allergic to them to the point he often complained when I came home full of hair and his sneezes lit up the room.
Before walking home I take one more look in the direction the boy scurried off towards, completely perplexed by the sudden appearance. I was curious to know who he was. Winter nights were long and cold, but yet he was only in a leather jacket and fingerless gloves. Was he homeless?
A pang of guilt fills my insides and I'm left in my own thoughts about how lucky I was to have a home, a family but people my age didn't even have a roof over their heads. That, and the music blasting through my earphones distracted me untill I came face to face with two brawly men at the bottom of the alley way.
However, to my luck, as I try to squeeze past muttering an apology and a excuse me one of the two grabs my backpack yanking me backwards and too the ground.
"Money, bag phone, everything." One gruffs, his voice echoing around my head.
"You're out of luck there mate, I'm a uni student I am broke." I chuckle out. My attempts to make light of the situation darken as a catch the glimpse of silver in the others hands.
And I freeze.
I lay there on the ground, absolutely frozen as they begin to move towards me. Untill a body drops from the roof tops above us. It was all too quick for me to follow but seconds later I hear a cry of pain from one of the men his hands going towards his eyes and immediately dropping the knife while blood pours through his fingers. He staggers down the road away from view.
The second man turns towards the feline figure rushing towards him, with his own blade in hand. But in fluid movements the feline steps to the side, and litterally slaps the man's hand to the opposite side with the edge of his hand, like a knife. Then he grabs the wrist and steps into the man crashing his other elbow into his rib cage then his foot comes crashing down on his leg. Before smacking the back of the man's neck sending him into a crumpled heep on the floor.
The feline grins, closing his eyes as he tilts his head in my direction. His long canines prod out slightly from his lips.
But as quick as he appeared, he was gone.
I took that as my queue to scurry off in a fit of terror and absolutely pelt it down the quiet streets of a Thursday night.
"I'm allergic to cats! You've known this for 6 months! Why do you keep feeling those scraggly little things."
I sigh, closing the front door behind me as I enter my home. 9/10 times my parents were away for the evening and let's Jake in to wait for my return. But in reality it was starting to annoy me. They love him, the perfect son for them.
But he hates cats.
And I didn't really need this right now.
"If you claim to love me why do you come back every single evening from work smelling like a cat. It makes me so ill. Surely I should be put before those hideous things. Honestly noone even feeds stray cats that's just weird."
"Jesus fucking Christ Jake I just almost got killed and you're fucking worried about some cat hair." I snap back at him. He stares at me as I explain the situation to him. The whole thing start to finish whilst he looks at me like I'm deluded.
"Not being funny Mia, if you wasn't feeding cats at 9 pm you'd be fine?"
With that I kick him out the house, suddenly irritated by his presence. He only lives 3 doors away, so I didn't feel guilty for kicking him out in the cold so late at night.
