When social media first came around to people in my generation we were so cautious. I remember my mother telling me to never talk to strangers.. never share my personal information. I was always cautious, my life was always filled with caution. Making friends...Choosing what to eat. I never truly had a normal life. I was guarded and kept to myself.

As high school approached I met new people and opened up. I met a boy in my English class named John. He was tall and handsome and his voice was as sweet as honey. I could never forget about him. I don't think John forgot about me either..

Freshmen Year

I sat in my usual spot in the middle row of my class with one of my good friends named Lucy. Lucy was well known for people in my grade. She even knew people who were in their sophomore and some in junior year. I only knew of people in our grade.

"What are you going to do about him?" Lucy smirked at me and looked to her left while leaning on her desk.

I turned to see the boy who looked down instantly as I gazed at him. His dark frame glasses sitting perfectly on his face. His lanky figure slouching in the chair. I smiled to him but he wouldn't dare to look up.

I turned to Lucy, the heat on my cheeks feeling warmer than normal.

"Who are you even talking about?" I asked obliviously with a poker face. Lucy laughed right in my face.

"John Durner. Amelia he totally digs you have you even added him on Snapchat yet?" She pulled out her phone looking through her contacts on the picture sharing app.

As Lucy turned her phone to me I see John's username displayed on the screen. With a surprise look all I think of is why and how Lucy  had his social handle for Snapchat, but I wouldn't ask.

"how did you even get his account?"  I look at his username quickly remembering it in my head. It could be useful someday.

"Hand me your phone." Lucy held out her hand with her fingers wiggling as she waited for me to hand her my phone.

I obliged and handed her my device after unlocking it. I can't see what she is doing but I know it won't be good. Lucy smiles with a twinkle in her eye and then passes back my phone quickly.

I slide my phone back into my pocket for the rest of my English class ignoring Lucy as she stared at me and then beside me in the direction of John.

Lunch

As I make my way out of math class I head to the cafeteria. Being a freshman in the jungle of high school isn't fun. The school I attend isn't filled with crazy groups with social differences but we aren't exactly normal either. We have our flaws. Everyone has flaws.

I walk into the big cafeteria and try to spot out Lucy and Marissa. Marissa is another friend of mine who I've known since grade 7. She is bubbly and everyone is so nice to her. She is a great friend to have and I'm glad I'm close to her.

I find Marissa sitting at a round table as Lucy approaches it with her tray of food. I make my way over to the table and sit down quickly.

As I take my seat Lucy instantly looks at me with a questioning expression on her face.

"Did he add you back?" She holds her hands tightly together giving a "praying" look and my eyes nearly drop out of my head.

I scramble to take my phone out of my pocket, why does it seem like we're in slow motion?! Unlocking my phone and connecting to the schools local wifi a notification pops up....

"JohnD27 has added you as a friend!"
