Chan sighs aloud. His heart screams, asking the universe why must he suffer this much. His breath hitched when he heard a very loud scream coming from a nearby bench. Curiously, Chan's eyes darts towards the sound and his lips formed a genuine, fond smile.

Sitting on the bench, a young man with a shoe in his hand is screaming frustratedly. From where Chan is standing, he can see a shoe sinking into the ocean. Chan lets out a chocked giggle.

"I fucking hate my life! Why must I suffer like this?! ANSWER ME YOU GODDAMN SEA!" the man screamed.

Chan coos at the sight of the man throwing his other shoe into the ocean. It was an amusing, yet adorable sight. The man tried so hard for his shoe to get into the ocean, ignoring the distance he has with it.

"Hey, I saw you throwing shoes into the ocean, anything wrong?" Chan asked after his legs brought him to the man.

The man's breath hitched and he stares at Chan, long and intense, before finally speaking, "I hate my fucking life! First I got fired, then my mom kicked me out, and then my boyfriend broke up with me!"

Chan smiles fondly and sits beside the frustrated man. "That must suck so bad, I'm so sorry to hear that."

The man sighs. "That's fine, it's not your fault."

For a minute, the sound of birds chirping and the ocean slamming into each other were the ones that are heard. Chan hesitantly looks at the man and proceeded to parts his lips.

"You know, my life isn't the best either," Chan said. "My parents divorced, my brother ran away, my grades have been dropping, and my music won't sell."

The young man stares at Chan. "I'm so sorry, I-"

"It's fine, you didn't take part in it," Chan smiled.

The young man smiles back and reaches out for Chan's hands. "My name is Lee Minho, I'm here to help."

Chan lets out a giggle. "I'm Bang Chan and I'm not sure about your help."

"Just because I throw shoes into the sea doesn't mean I'm not a kind-hearted person okay!"

Chan barks out a laugh, the sight makes Minho smiles fondly.

"You know, both of our lives are a bitch. Yet you're so calm about it and I'm such an asshole about it," Minho said.

"I know right," Chan responded.

Minho kicks Chan's leg slightly. "What's that supposed to mean?!"

Chan laughs. "Sorry, sorry."

Minho scoffs. His fingers randomly traces around his fabric and pulls his sweater onto his palm, protecting it with a so-called sweater paw.

"You were so angry earlier, and now, you're all soft and shit with the sweater paws," Chan commented.

Minho's cheeks becomes a tint of pink. "You calmed me down."

"Did I?" Chan asked, surprised.

Minho nods. "Yeah, your voice made me very calm. You're like a calming water, and I'm a raging fire."

Chan smiles at the words. He lets his hand sneak around Minho's shoulders and pulls the man closer. "Then your calming water is here to put you out, sir."

Minho giggles. "What's that supposed to mean?"

The day was Thursday when the men met. Underneath the orange sky, they talked about themselves whilst admiring the very beautiful sunset provided by nature. They laugh their problems away and give each other supportive comments. Though they just met today, it feels like they've been friends for years.

Deep down in the ocean, Minho's shoes meet the sand and stays there unbothered, happy that the owner finally threw them away because, oh, they were so tired of stomping around all day.

I got the inspiration to write this when my finger touched a very cold water and thought it was a fire. My mind immediately went: water and fire, though completely different, is the same. They both fucking sting okay.
