The rest of the week passed by rather quickly. Of course people would stare at me at school because they heard of my fight with Marie. Speaking of her, she has a really bruised face that no amount of concealer can cover up and black eyes. I am rather proud of myself for that. The gashes in my face have already started to heal, thank god!
The band has been practicing for our weekly gig on Friday. Sadly Alex and I haven't come up with any new songs. It seems like we are having a form of writer's block. So because of that we are going to do the songs we did last week. I hope the owner of the club won't be mad. The difference about this week is that my parents are coming to see us perform. So yea that's gonna be fun! By the way that was sarcasm.
Omg I'm so excited right now. We are about to go on stage and I am so pumped. The owner gives us the go ahead and we run out onto the stage.
"Are you ready to rock?!" I yell into the mic. I am answered with cheering. We go into our first song and I start moving around the stage. I look into the crowd and see my parents dancing. That was a sight I really didn't want to see. Everyone is dancing and having a good time which brings a smile to my face. God I love this job! If I could do this as a career I totally would. But the chance of that happening is one in a million.
Hours later I walk off the stage dripping sweat. All of the dancing I did was a hard workout. I look around at my band members and see that they are all grinning like the goofballs they are. Alex comes over and wraps is arm around me giving me a quick kiss on the cheek. Connor and Drew give us a questioning look since we have failed to mention that we are now going out.
"Uh sorry I forgot to tell you guys, but me and Alex are kind of a thing now." I say with a sheepish grin.
"I KNEW IT!" Drew yells jumping and pumping his fist. Connor just looks at us with a grin and walks away. I guess he doesn't really give a shit. Drew on the other hand has now come over and is crushing me in a bear hug. He then goes over to Alex and they do this weird hand shake thing. I see my parents walking over to us out of the corner of my eye.
"Honey that was seriously amazing. You guys are definitely going to become famous one day." my mom says.
"Your mother is right. You deserve it and you have more than enough talent to get it done. I heard that there is a battle of the bands competition in Nashville coming up. I think you should enter." my dad says.
"Seriously? We have to do this. It's our time to put ourselves out there. I know we have only been at this gig for a few weeks, but if we have the chance to do something more then I want to take it." I say seriously. The guys nod their head and we have come to a conclusion. We are entering that competition and we are going to kick some ass.
The next morning I wake up around 10:30 after that late night. But it's Saturday so no one really cares. I follow the smell of pancakes downstairs and find my family at the table eating without me.
"So you decided to not wait for me?" I ask.
"I was hungry and you were still sleeping. I just wanted food." my brother says. I roll my eyes and grab three pancakes smothering them in maple syrup. I eat them quickly and head back up to my room to register the band in the competition. After about half and hour it's done. We are going to Nashville and kicking some ass. I decided to send out a mass text to the guys letting them know that we are registered.
Me: Registered for Nashville!
Connor: Time to kick some ass:)
Drew: Hell yea! Let's do this!
Alex: I'm so ready! We can do this!
That's when I realize we are going to have to practice until everything is perfect. And we only have two weeks to do that. I groan in my mind. This is going to be so much work. Hopefully it will be worth it in the end.
I think back to the beginning of the school year when I first met Alex. I thought he was so hot. Which he still is, the difference is this time I can say he's mine. He had introduced me to the band and here we are now. The past few months have gone by so quickly. Now it is fall and it is slowly turning into winter, I hate the cold so that's a problem. I never thought that as a 16, almost 17 year old girl I would be in a band, possibly about to get famous. It's pretty much everyone's dream to be famous and I might get that chance.
The next couple of weeks pass by quickly. They were filled with band rehearsal, band rehearsal, school, and more band rehearsal. After all of the practicing and preparing we finally have our performance perfected. I think we might actually win. At the competition we have to do an original song that was created by us and we decided to go with In The Dark since it has a small part where it turns to screamo and we think that will show our diversity and skill. We also have to perform a cover of a song. We chose Royals since we put our own spin on it and it is original. It was also one of the favorites for us to perform at the club.
Ten minutes until we perform both of our songs. I am so nervous right now my hands are shaking. I pace throughout the dressing room that was assigned to us. I feel like a bunch of rabbits were set loose in my stomach and then a pack of wolves is chasing after them.
"Relax Kat. We are going to do awesome. More importantly YOU are going to do awesome." Alex reassures me.
"But what if I mess up? What if I fall on my face in front of everyone? What if I forget the words? What if my voice cracks? What if I can't do the screamo anymore?" I ask relieving myself of the burden of all of the questions.
"That's exactly right. IF. Not when. If. You are going to be amazing and everyone will love us and we will win that recording contract. It's a big contract too. It's Alpha Records. All of their artists become famous almost instantly. You will not mess up and we will get that contract." Alex states firmly.
"Okay you're right. I'm just really nervous right now. There's like 5,000 people out there right now and it is being televised live on NBC. It's one of the biggest competitions in Tennessee." I say.
"I know. But all of those people are going to see us and love us. It will definitely boost our fan base." Alex says. I look over at Connor and Drew and see that they are just opening their second bag family size bag of chips.
"Guys you're going to get fat! And you need to stop because we are going on soon and your hands can't be greasy." I chastise them.
"Oh all right you party pooper." Drew frowns.
"Yea you're right Kat. I can't let those drum sticks slip out of my hands." Connor says. We hear a knock on the door and it opens revealing one of the crew members for the competition.
"You're on in two minutes." he says. We go beside the stairs that will lead us onto the stage. My heart is pounding so hard it feels like it's about to burst. I take deep breaths to calm myself down. It works, but it still feels like the longest two minutes of my life.
"Now introducing the punk-pop band from Adams, Tennessee. Here is Dark Angel!" the host announces.
