As soon as my foot hits the stage I am blinded with all of the stage lights. The sight of the thousands of people here are overwhelming and I feel like I am going to throw up.
There is the distinct smell of sweat permeating from the crowd and I start to gag. One other thing I smell is raw determination. And that is coming from my band. We came here to win and that's what we are going to do. We will not lose, we have worked way too hard and we are way too talented for that to happen.
I take a deep breath and turn and face the crowd. I give them a big smile and the camera zooms in on my face.
I grab the mic and Connor counts off the beats to Royals on his drum sticks. He starts banging away and then Drew joins in on the bass guitar. Alex gives me a reassuring smile and a wink as he starts to play the guitar. I hear the chord that Alex plays and know that it's my cue.
"I've never seen a diamond in the flesh, I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies." I sing.
The crowd gives a huge cheer once they hear what song it is. That makes me smile, but I keep on singing. Some people even try to sing along but since we did our own version it's different so they are unable to. This song has more of a care free feel to it, but it is still really powerful. And we incorporated a lot of dynamics, unlike the original song.
"And we'll never be royals, it don't run in our blood." I start to sing the chorus. At this point I am a lot more comfortable with the stage and I start to move around and dance. I walk to one side of the stage and high five the people that are reaching their hands out. I stay over there for a little longer, then I move the the other side of the stage and do the same thing. I return to the middle of the stage for the last few lines.
Once the song is over the entire crowd starts to cheer. The sound is deafening and I'm pretty sure my left ear drum is deaf. I have a huge grin on my face even though I am covered in sweat from all of the dancing. When the cheering dies down we go into our next song In The Dark.
"I've written songs..." I start to sing. I start to walk around again, but this time I don't go to high five anyone. As I'm walking back to center stage I see Connor drop one of his drum sticks. I laugh in my head since we were talking about him dropping his drum sticks back stage. He quickly recovers and I don't think anyone noticed.
As I am nearing the scream part I get increasingly nervous. I hope I don't mess it up. My heart starts pounding and I can feel the blood rushing through my ears. My hands get clammy and I fear that I will drop the mic. Alex notices and he moves closer to me and looks at me. The look in his eyes is enough to calm me down. His eyes said that everything would be alright and that I would do great.
Once I pass the first scream part without messing up I am ecstatic. I dance around the stage and just have fun. I kill all of the other scream parts and when we finish I have the biggest grin on my face. Everyone cheers, and again the sound is deafening. I think they really like us. I hope so.
We walk off the stage and I feel like a huge weight just lifted off of my shoulders. I feel like I could do anything I wanted to.
I am snapped out of my thoughts by a bone crushing group hug from all of the guys. We are all jumping around cheering even though we don't know if we've won or not. I feel like just doing that awesome in our performance was a victory.
Alex lifts me up and spins me around like in some romance movie. We both are grinning like idiots and the other two guys are just laughing at us.
That's when Alex kisses me. It was the first time we kissed since our first date a few weeks ago. We have just been so busy that we didn't get to spend a lot of quality time together.
