Have you ever had one of those days where everything goes wrong? Where it seems luck just isn't on your side? Well that's exactly the kind of day I'm having. My (now shattered) alarm clock went off an hour late, I spilt coffee all over my new suit, I hit my neighbor's stupid dog, I got pulled over by a cop for speeding, and my boss decided to dock my pay for coming in two hours late. This day officially sucks.
I was in the back of the store hanging up some suits and tuxes when I heard the bell above the front door jingle. My lovely boss decided that since I took an extra two hours to get here he was entitled to leave for a (checking my watch) hour and a half lunch break. As I'm walking back into the main room I catch a glimpse of the customers. The girl is somewhat short with layered black hair, and the guy standing next to her is obviously her boyfriend. She's keeps holding up blazers to his chest while laughing as he rejects them all. When they finally make a decision I ring them up and watched them leave. It's really sad to admit that this is my typical Saturday afternoon.
My boss comes back about an hour later. He starts babbling on about how bad the traffic was and other stuff I'm completely droning out.
"Josh, are you listening to me?"
"Not really." I mumble.
"Excuse me?"
"Nothing."
"That's what I..." Luckily I was saved by a customer.
"Hello! Welcome to Rusty's Tuxes and Ties. Please note that everything is fifteen percent off today and that I'll be happy to help you find whatever you're looking for."
"Actually, I was hoping the young gentleman next to you could give me a hand." I looked up to see the face of girl a I thought I'd never see again. She gave me a perfect smile as I walked towards her. I came as close as we could get without touching when she enveloped me into her sweet embrace. I can't believe how much I've missed her. The smell of her long auburn curls sends my mind wild with memories of the past summer.
I live in this small tourist town along the beach in Florida. It was around six in the morning when I got to the shore. Our house is right on the beach, so it didn't take long before I was on my board conquering the waves. We met later that morning. I found out that she was visiting all the way from Michigan. I'd already been flirting when I asked her if she wanted a private surfing lesson.
"I don't do jocks." She said with a grimace, but I caught the hint of amusement shining in her eyes.
"Well I was kind of thinkin' we could go on a date first." I said smirking like a jerk.
I knew she was exactly the type of girl I'd been looking for when she turned on her heel shouting 'no thanks player!'
It took a lot of convincing on my part to get her to go out with me, but the first date was definitely worth it. Three and a half weeks later she told me the only reason she'd turned me down the first day we met was because she already knew how to surf. I acted hurt and asked her if I should be offended. The next thing she did shocked the hell out of me. She leaned in and told me she loved me. It was at that moment I realized I loved her too.
When my friends found out how hard I'd fallen they nagged me about it for days. I'd just turned twenty-one, but when I was in high school I'd "dated" pretty much every girl at my school. I did my best to stay away from the good girls knowing I'd probably break their hearts, but when push came to shove I was just another guy out there ruled by his hormones. I knew I didn't want anything serious in high school. I mean seriously. What's the point if you're just going to go your separate ways later? Besides, I was never the type of guy who wanted to be tied down and told what to do, especially not by some girl that I wouldn't think twice about two years later. I wanted to be free and have fun during my last years of high school which is exactly what I was known for.
So...I guess you could say I was an ass, or someone with serious commitment issues.
-Sorry the ending was so crappy...I honestly wasn't sure how to end the chapter. Please comment, it's been a while since I've uploaded and I'd love some feedback.-
