I woke up to my alarm clock buzzing and making a god awful racket. I hear my phone beep and I read the text from my best friend; Ella Morris.

From Ella:

Good Morning Josh ;)

From Josh:

G' Morning!

From Ella:

Are we still on for lunch?

From Josh:

Yeah, at Greenrose park right? and I'm picking u up?

From Ella:

Yep, see you 'round 12ish

From Josh:

Bye see you soon

From Ella:

;)

I smile and take a shower. Ella has been my best friend since Grade 4. We are now in grade 11 and go to completely different colleges. Mine is all boys and hers is all girls. It's all we can do to catch up.

I get dressed and grab my phone and keys.

I rush out of the door and jump into my car. I need to pick Ella up from her house at 12.

After I arrive at Ella's house, I knock on the door and she answered it.

"I'm ready to go." she says. She looks breath-taking. "Cool, lets go." she takes my hand and we walk hand in hand to the car.

As we're driving to the park I try to engage her in conversation. "So what subjects are you doing at school?" I ask.

"Social studies, drama, Indonesian, maths and history," Ella says. "How about you?"

"History, maths, science, Japanese and geography. Are you still playing chess?" I ask. she loves that game and she's really good at it. "Yep, I am."

"Oh, cool." Ella shoulder hugs me. "I've missed you heaps Josh," she says.

"Me too Ella."

After 10 minutes, we are almost at the park and we are at the last set of traffic lights. When our lights go green we started to drive and so did somebody else; straight through red lights and about to hit the side of my car.

I brace myself and then remember Ella.

I shriek, "ELLA!!" and wrap my arms around her. The next thing I know, (or rather, I didn't know,) the world went black.
