"What?!" screamed Eliza, "I have to marry him?!"
"Eliza, as Princess of the Garden Fae, by your 18th birthday you need to be engaged to a prince," her mother, Isabelle, explained, "I have chosen one who is around your age, so be thankful that he's not some 40-year-old."
"Thankyou mother," Eliza said through gritted teeth
"You are welcome, now I'm going to leave this wedding magazine here on your dressing table so you can look through it and decide on the details, okay?" Isabelle asked wearily
"Okay. Whatever, it's not like I'm going to be excited or anything"
-
"Wait, so when's your birthday again?" Eliza's best friend Erin, asked
"5th August" Eliza replied
"That's like three months away, at least she didn't tell you a week before"
"Who's side are you on?"
"Yours, obviously, but even if the law is hard, the law is law."
"Ugh, wait a second, the law says that you have to be engaged by your 18th birthday, but it doesn't say you can't call off the engagement right after! OMG Erin I think we've found our solution!"
"Eliza, you haven't even met the guy yet, he might not want to call it off, he might actually want to marry you!"
"I doubt it, but I'm meeting him tomorrow so I guess I'll see then"
"Anyway, I think the cake I made just burned, geez there are literally no advantages to being a fire fairy!"
"Okay," Eliza laughed, "I'll call you tomorrow, after I've met him"
"Bye!" And with that, Erin hung up
-
"Eliza, this is Prince Jonathon of the Water Fae Realm" Isabelle introduced her "And Jonathon, this is Princess Eliza of the Garden Fae Realm"
Eliza had seen his face in the picture her mother had shown her but seeing him in person created a certain ...aura about him. He seemed charismatic and charming but also cocky and arrogant at times and he hadn't even opened him mouth yet!
"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Scarlett" Jonathon bowed slightly
"You too, Mr Oceana" Annabelle answered as she curtsied
In the silent moments that followed, Eliza thought 'Well this is awkward'
Apparently Jonathon was thinking the same because he would look at anything but her
"Okay," Isabelle broke the silence "What about I take you for a tour of the palace Jonathon?"
