As I Lie

I lie under the waves of the sea,

Falling deeper into the unknown abyss.

The weight of the water drags my body downward,

As if it were the hands of a God wishing to drag me into an afterlife.

No sounds ring out as the cool water moves past my skin;

The descent to the sea's floor imminent and permanent in it's calling.

I turn to face the surface, hoping to gasp out for air only to see the miles of waves before me,

Burying me in a soft tomb of blue and white colliding in this almost ethereal plane.

Above me, a flicker of white light blazes

As the Gods tell me of their anger.

The beauty in the blaze is almost unmatched.

I'm led gently downward to the bed of sand that lies for me,

Tracing my now free floating hands around

The ship's outlines above me.

Funny how only moments ago I plummeted off of one of them,

Yet I feel trapped in an eternity's time under the water.

The burning in my lungs soon subsided as the chilling calm of the sea

Soothes my worries and troubles away.

Tilting my head from the surface,

I look to see red-turned-black wisps

Of what can only be my blood

Curl and float around me as some sort of

Demented and horrific guide down.

It was so terrifyingly beautiful to know

That my death on the floor of the sea

Would be so brilliant before my mortal eyes.

I soon feel the calm embrace of the sand,

Releasing the clench of my muscles

As my eyes once more drift up to the surface.

Though the silence encased me as a whole,

I could almost still hear the screams of my name

As I had fallen overboard and into these cool waters.

The women screaming out to the men,

Begging them to save a soul already claimed by the God of the Sea.

A smile washes over my face

As I close my eyes, still not feeling the burn

Of my lungs as I calmly drift

Into the ethereal sleep we know as

Death.
