Sweetnum Valley used to be the type of quaint town where nothing ever happens. People would leave their doors unlocked at night and kids would play in the streets without a fear in the world, that is until the Grbac sisters arrived. Since it was revealed that the three of them were witches the residents of Sweetnum Valley have yet to return to their formerly permanent state of bliss.

The cat was out of the bag for Luna, Venus and Nova but it wasn't just their pet, Morticia, this time. Though there was a sense of liberation for the girls in not having to hide their broomsticks and spellbooks losing the trust of the people around them was a big price to pay. Venus and Luna were strong enough to handle the stares from people everywhere they go but Nova wasn't. She decided to move back to Dublin and live with her boyfriend, Griffin, to get another fresh start. It was hard for her sisters to deal with, they had gone through so many hardships together and her leaving felt like the breaking up of their strong team. Especially for Luna, she often fought with Venus so she saw Nova as her only gal pal most of the time. But just like with all of the troubles they'd faced in their life, the two remaining sisters moved on.

Venus, in some ways, was given a new beginning too. Today was her first day at Harvard University. Anyone looking at her face that morning as she made her coffee would be able to tell too, the smile that was on her face spread from one end to the other. She had a long commute ahead of her because she wasn't living on campus, the drive from the Grbac house to Harvard was about an hour with no traffic. Alas, that was the sacrifice she had to make now being Luna's only guardian. Venus finished eating her breakfast, looked at Luna and said "Just because I'll be more busy with my studies doesn't mean I won't be keeping my eyes on you. If I hear you skipped school today there will be consequences. I know that it's going to be a rough first day back but you have David there and can call me if things get chaotic.". Luna took a nervous gulp of her cereal, she had been procrastinating thinking of this day. She had spent the summer hanging out with her boyfriend, David and redoing spells from the Protector of the Covenant. Since her epic failure of the final spell in the Protector of the Covenant which lead to multiple deaths, Violet, the head of the Witches Society of America, demanded that she redo all of the spells in the book in order to get her certificate. But today was finally the first day of the school year, she could no longer avoid thinking of it. Luna thought to herself, "It's going to be so hard seeing the faces of the friends of people I killed.".

David knocked on the Grbac sisters door when Luna saw it was him she sprinted. Though they had been friends for exactly a year to the day and dating for a few months her heart still fluttered whenever she saw him. Morticia, despite being a cat saw herself as more of a guard dog and often used her zapping powers to disintegrate the belongings of whoever entered their house. Luna groaned, "Stop Morticia!! It's just David!" and Morticia stepped away. David chuckled, "She's just showing her affection for me, right?". Luna put on her backpack and the two of them hopped on her broomstick. Luna sighed, "I feel bad, you're being my boyfriend could lead to you getting in trouble. I'm sorry in advance.". David leaned forward and kissed her on the cheek, he whispered in her ear "Don't you worry about me. I'm more worried about you, if anyone tries to hurt you yell for me and I'll come running!". David mimicked punching someone and Luna laughed, "How threatening!".

Luna was happy to learn her favourite teacher, Mrs Osbourne, was teaching her homeroom class. Luna thought to herself, "Maybe this year won't be so bad.". When Mrs Osbourne saw Luna she gave her a hug and exclaimed "Luna! How have you been? I haven't seen you since..." and there was an awkward silence as they both reflected on that horrendous night. Luna sighed and said, "I've been good actually, I had a low key summer. Mostly just chilled with David and learned some spells.". She sat down at a desk but unsurprisingly no one wanted to sit anywhere near her. Grace, one of the most popular girls of the school, whispered to her friend "Why is she allowed here? After the number of people she killed at prom, including my best friend, she's a safety threat!". "Apparently her sister threatened to curse Principal Smith if he didn't let her still attend this school." her friend replied. They gave Luna a dirty look but Luna simply just gave them the middle finger and looked away.

Venus's stellar navigation skills came in handy getting around Harvard's campus. As she was sitting down in her seat she could see out of the corner of her eye someone running towards her. Venus examined the person and quickly realized it was her friend Asali. Asali yelled "Venus! I'm so happy to see you!" so loudly that everyone else in the class stared at her. Venus gestured for Asali to sit next to her and the two of them chatted. Venus said "I always used to think I'm really smart but listening to some of these other people have me scared." and then proceeded to eavesdrop on her fellow medical students. While becoming a surgeon had always been her dream she never really had the opportunity to put it in action until now which excited her but she still was somewhat scared. Asali replied "Oh don't worry. Back in Karachi I knew lots of people who seemed smart but once you actually talked to them ended up being stupid!" and Venus laughed.

The rest of Venus's day was jam-packed with classes and being given textbooks that looked were too heavy for her scrawny arms to carry. Despite having a more intense academic workload than her sister she had the advantage of no one knowing she was a witch. Luna dealt with two types of people at her school. Some people decided to air all their grievances related to prom night at her through yelling. Others, the category out of the two she preferred, were scared of her now that they knew of her powers and chose to avoid her. The biggest down point for Luna occurred during gym class.

Ms Hardy instructed, "Alright, as a back to school welcome for you all, how about a game of dodgeball? Since Brooke and Maddy got ready fastest they'll be our two team captains.". Luna was unsurprisingly chosen last and given to Maddy's team. Maddy lost her boyfriend, sister and best friend because of Luna's actions on prom night so she was more than a little unhappy with the unwanted addition to her team. She yelled "Oh Ms Hardy! Please, please, I beg you! Don't make me have to deal with her! I'd rather do a billion push-ups!". Brooke retorted "No! God no! I am not taking her! She belongs to your team so you'll just have to cope!.". Ms Hardy let out a sigh and said "Ladies, ladies, calm down! I know Luna is a difficult person but she is staying at this school so you all will have to learn to be civil. Maddy, Luna remains on your team.".

Luna was used to avoiding people and had good aim so dodgeball was actually a strong suit of hers, she ended up being the last person left on her team. She thought to herself about what to do, "Now comes the hard part, ten people who hate me all throwing stuff at me and no one left for me to hide behind. I can use magic but I must do it in a subtle way so I don't get accused of cheating.". Luna used a deflection spell and managed to eliminate everyone on her opposing team. Ms Hardy complimented her "Luna! That was terrific! You should join the dodgeball team!". Luna replied "It's okay, it's more of...um... a hobby." and left the gym for home.
