The Protector of the Covenant: Volume Two

Chapter 13

The Schwartz parents came rushing into the living room, Joshua cried: "How could he have been shot? Surely we would've noticed some person with a gun coming into our house!". Luna remarked, "But look, the window is open! Also, we were all distracted and had our backs turned to watch Venus! It's completely possible.". Venus asked, "Is he dead?". David checked and the guy had no pulse, they called his parents to tell them their son had died.

Venus's birthday party ended up being the talk of the campus but not in a positive way. All she heard in the halls the week after the party was people gossiping about who might've been the killer. As Venus sat down in her film class Nadia, one of her fellow classmates, said: "Did you hear the next movie we're analyzing is psycho? Oh, speaking of murder, I heard about what happened on your birthday.". Venus retorted: "Can we not talk about that?" but Nadia continued to press her for info. Liam overheard their conversation and interrupted, "Hey, Nadia, how about you shut up? Go take your annoying self somewhere else.". Liam successfully scared away Nadia and Venus commented: "Thanks, Liam. That was nice of you.". Liam replied, "No problem." and the class began.

Luna's romantic life had been suffering since the birthday party. David's parents were less than thrilled that a murder had taken place at their house. They also felt now that Luna was tied to a life of crime. The consequence of all of this was that the Schwartzs were trying to limit David's time with his girlfriend. Luna exclaimed after she opened the house door and saw him, "What are you doing here? I thought your parents practically banned you from seeing me?". David cried, "Did you really think I'd be able to stay away? I told them I'm at the arcade.". The two of them went out to a movie theatre David knew his parents never go to.

Luna went to her weekly Protector of the Covenant training at the WSA headquarters that weekend. As she entered the spell room Violet inquired, "I heard there was a murder at Venus's birthday party. Who died? Do you know who did it?". Luna responded, "This guy from one of Venus's classes at Harvard. We didn't see who killed him and we still don't know who did it.". Violet wanted to ask Luna some more questions but knew the actual purpose of their meeting was to do magic. She continued, "We're going to work on the potion of power today. We need lots of stuff for this one: a jar, a lid, flower petals, lime, honey and you might feel scared about this....but... we need a drop of your blood.". Luna laughed, "Scared? Me? Not at all, I find it fascinating!". Luna grabbed a knife and made a small cut in her hand over the cauldron. They mixed all the ingredients together in the cauldron and Luna chanted, ''I call upon thee, to enchant myself with power, with the element of earth, from the highest peak of mountains to the waves of angry waters, I want the power, so mote it be.''. She put the potion into the jar then flew on her broomstick home.

Asali had organized a dinner with Venus at what she said was an "as authentic Pakastani food as you can get outside of Pakistan.". Since Liam had stuck up for Venus she had been reexamining her previously negative feelings towards him. With the permission of Asali, she invited him to their dinner. Venus wanted everyone to get along so she tried to get Asali to connect with her newfound friend, she said: "Liam, you love movies, Asali loves romantic comedies.". Liam laughed and asked Asali: "Are you into the classic 80s ones like When Harry Met Sally and Pretty in Pink or the 90s British stuff, Notting Hill, Four Weddings and a Funeral?". Asali replied, "Oh, I'm just starting to watch these movies so I haven't seen much yet.". Liam responded, "I'll have to show you a bunch, there's a lot more than just romantic comedies too.". The three of them ended up all having a really good time, Venus thought happily: "Maybe we'll become a little friendship trio!". By the end of the night, they all agreed to hang out together regularly.

Luna was in her English class when Mrs Osbourne said, "Luna, Principal Smith wishes to see you in his office.". Luna got up as her classmates made an "ooh" sound and Lucy smirked. Luna thought, "Oh no, what is it now?" as she walked downstairs. She had not had the best relationship with her principal, he greatly disliked witches and Venus begged him just to let Luna stay in the school. As Luna opened his door she took a nervous breath and walked inside the room.

Principal Smith was sporting the frown he always did when he saw Luna. He cleared his throat and stated, "Luna, there have been many people saying you murdered someone and-" then Luna interrupted him. She explained, "Oh, I think you're mistaken. Someone was murdered at my sister's birthday party but it wasn't me who did the murdering.". Principal Smith replied, "Then why does one of your hands have a scar on it? I have reason to believe you are the killer and due to this I am suspending you until another person is convicted or I guess I should say if another person is.". Luna retorted, "Surely you can't suspend me just based off suspicion.". Principal Smith declared, "Yes I can and I am going to.". Luna stormed off and when David saw her face in the halls he was concerned. He asked his girlfriend, "Are you okay? What happened?" as he cupped her face in his hands. Luna cried, "I've been suspended! All because of a stupid rumour!", it was last period and David had a spare so the two of them went to her house together.

When Venus came home David was still there. She said, "David, what are you doing here?". Luna explained to her older sister the whole ordeal that had happened at school and how David was there consoling her. Venus sighed, "Well, seeing as it's late, do you want to have dinner with us?". David replied, "Sure, let me just text my parents to say I'm at my tutor's house.". Venus retorted, "Tutor's house? Whatever this lie is you have going on with your parents leave me out of it! When they find out, which knowing your mom she will, make sure they know I didn't approve of it.". The three of them had frozen pizza and David desperately tried to warm his girlfriend's sister up to him.

David was packing up to go home and Venus was washing the dishes when Luna answered the door. It was a policeman, Luna was alarmed but managed to say calmly, "Good evening officer, how may I help you?". The policeman cleared his throat and inquired, "I'm looking for Luna Grbac.". Goosebumps grew on Luna's body, her whole body started trembling, her heart rate quickened. She replied, "I-I-I'm L-L-u-u-na Grb-b-bac.". The policeman grabbed his handcuffs and stated, "You are under arrest for murder.".
