-Shiro is the same age as the rest of the Paladins-
Shiro shifted his leaver ahead, advancing to the castle. The Black Lion soon approached it and flew down into his charging station. Shiro quickly sprang out and ran into the main control room. There, the crew was all huddled in the center.
"Shiro! Where have you been?" Coran scolded him the moment he walked in, while everyone turned their awareness to Shiro.
"I was just bonding a little more when I got your distress signals. Nothing seems wrong though?" Shiro adverted his attention to what they had been covering. "Is that-" Shiro's eyes grew at the sore sight. Laid out in front of them was Katie, (Pidge). Her arms were caught around her brother's head, Matt, and she stroked his hair. Katie glanced up at Shiro and his heart broke. The sight of her puffy eyes and silent tears pulverized him. The worst part is, he was gone. He couldn't have done anything to prevent it. "W-who did that?"
"That's the thing, Shiro, no one did," Lance spoke up this time. He had teary eyes. Lance and Hunk were softies, so it wasn't a surprise. But it was a surprise to see Keith with escaping tears on his face. As much as he tried to hide the sorrow and be strong, Keith couldn't. He hung his head down low. "H-he had caught a d-disease, and didn't t-tell anyone," Lance said barely distinct. Everyone's eyes clung to Katie as he stood up and walked out of the room.
"I'll go make sure she's fine," Allura susurrate, but Shiro stopped her before she could pass him to the exit.
"I'll go, you stay here." Shiro shifted her back some and before she could refuse, he was out the door heading after Katie. He knew she would either be in her room or the charging garage with the Green Lion. As he rounded a corner, he heard sniffles and gaped around to find Katie bundled up in a corner near her lion. "Katie?"
"W-what?" She hiccuped, not wanting to talk to anyone at the moment. The death of her brother, and the fact he didn't tell her or anyone for that matter about the illness, it just makes her think he wanted to die.
"It's just me, Shiro." She nodded slowly and wiped some tears again, but they were replaced with new ones. Katie heard Shiro slide down beside her and she felt him drape his arm over her hunched figure. Her heart sped up some and she felt her face heat some. "It's gonna be alright." He gave her a tight squeeze and stood up. "Come on." She glared up at him, but he ignored it and grabbed her hands. For such a big hand, and a robot one, he was gentle. He pulled her up slowly to his chest and hugged her. At first, nothing happened, but then, she pressed back. He was relieved that he didn't end up looking like an idiot but more relieved that she hugged him back. "Are you going to be ok?"
She shrugged. "I'm not sure. A p-part of me thinks he didn't tell us b-because...b-because he w-wanted to d-d-die." Shiro held her even tighter.
"I don't think he wanted to die. Even if he had...He didn't after seeing you. Now, how about we go watch a movie?"She sniffled and nodded, and they started walking.
Shiro never left her side the whole way there. She was depending on him for support to help her walk there, and he didn't want to let go. This was Katie. His Katie. As they surrounded Shiro's bed, Katie stopped walking altogether and swayed a little.
"Katie, you alright?" He settled his hand on her lower back, right where her arch was.
"Yeah, just need some water." She wiped her eyes and sat down on his bed.
"Ok, I will be right back then." Shiro walked to the kitchen where Hunk was cooking something new. "What's cooking chef?" Hunk smiled and pulled out a small pastry.
"Baking. I am thinking about calling them powder puffs." Hunk handed one over to Shiro and Shiro bit into the warm powdery treat. His eyes closed and he moaned in delight. Hunk laughed and slipped a few in his mouth.
"I'm taking some of these." Shiro got a plate and placed some on a plate for Katie. Then he got her glass of water.
"Shiro...How is she?" He whirled around to find Hunk tearing up.
"Don't sweat it. We are watching a movie. Just came to get her some water, but I think your treats will help put her in a better state." Hunk nodded and went back to making powder puffs. Shiro left and came back to his room where Katie sat mutely mourning. "Hey Katie, I got you some water, and Hunk made some pastries you have to try." He plopped down next to her and started rubbing her back. She eventually took the water and gulped it down. Following that, she rested her head on his shoulder.
The movie wasn't like anything they had ever seen. It was staring famous aliens and it was in a foreign language. After fixing the problem, they learned the movie was about a suffered romantic. Just their cup of tea. (Sarcasm).
Shiro felt his eyes dropping, so he went to tell Katie he was going to bed. Although, he didn't need to. She was sound asleep. He smiled and scooped her into his arms. Katie woke but pretended to be asleep. Tucking her into his bed, he gladly climbed in next to her, making sure to keep some range between the 2. She smiled to herself but then she listened to him start to mumble. And what he said lit a flame in her heart.
"You know Katie, tears don't suit you," Shiro whispered and closed his eyes to let sleep take him away.
