Prologue
"Hey baby even though I hate you,
I wanna love you,
I want you"
If I'm gonna be honest, I don't know if I like Charles. It's not like I call him his infamous nickname, either. If he considers you close, that's probably the time you could call him otherwise.
Oh, we're close all right. Close as enemies. Eherm, as some say, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer" will probably be the sensible explanation for that.
Our families have been rivals way back then, too. I came from a Spanish heritage while he came from an English one.
Anyway, I just really don't see why we should be friends. We belong into two different circles - though both are popular - and as typical stories go, we're the queen bees vs the jocks kinda thing.
"I swear, there's a new kid coming in today!" Said Thea, one of my friends.
"Girl?" Asked Irene.
"Yes. Suppose we welcome her?" Asked Thea.
"Um, no. I saw her with Chucky a while ago, and honestly, they sound like bestfriends," Said Sylvia.
Chucky was our codename for Charles, by the way. Why we chose that, I don't even know. Guess he kinda reminds us of that gruesome doll-like villain in that weird horror movie.
"Oh, the unibrow girl?" I raised my eyebrows. "Why her?"
"Hmm, I smell something fishy..." Thea squinted at me.
"Hmmph! I don't care if he likes girls with thick eyebrows! In fact, I don't really care about him. At all. So if you would excuse me," I stood up from the bench and went to the washroom.
And, of course, by the grace of God, Charles was leaning on the wall beside the washroom entrance.
He looked up and frowned.
I raised my eyebrow in irritation and flipped my hair.
Just then, the door opened and unibrow girl came floundering. God, was she small.
"Charles, who's this little gremlin you decided to take under your wings now, huh?" I said, fake-smiling.
"Uhm... This is Lori, Grade Nine."
"Wow, you're hanging out with a ninth grader now? Whatever happened to you and Joseph?"
"What's so wrong with ninth graders? And that's none of your business, Therese."
"Whoops, well... A lot of things, actually. Plus, wouldn't it damage your reputation if people saw you dating someone three years inferior to you?" I flipped my hair. "Don't get in my way, Harris. I know alot about what happened between you and Joseph. And I can easily spread them throughout the whole campus in a flash."

[Charles]
She doesn't know anything about what happened to me and Joseph. I know, because both of us were the only people in that scene. Honestly, was she living under a rock? Joseph had been in a coma for 3 months now!
Oh, shit. That's probably what she knows.
That I'm the one who put Joseph in a coma.
I'm in serious trouble now.

[Therese]
Huh. Charles thinks I don't know? Well I do!
