It was the summer of 1988. A lot of kids enjoyed summer because that was when school was out for 6 months. Zak and Josh were so excited for summer break, not only because that meant no homework, but it also meant no getting their face pushed into the toilet bowl.
"Hurry up Josh. We're going to miss the bus if you don't hurry the hell up" sighs Zak. Josh sprints over to Zak. It takes around a good 20 minutes until the boys reached the bus stop. "Hey idiots" yells Henry. The boys turn around to see Henry Campbell, the school bully. Henry approaches the boys. "What do you want Henry" asks Josh with a bit of attitude. Zak grabs Josh's arm and tries to leave. "Where do you think you're going?" questions Henry as he looks at Zak fiercely. Josh whispers something into Zak's ear. "What was that loser?" asks Henry with anger. The boys look at each other. "LOOK!!!" says Zak pointing behind Henry. Henry turns around and the boys run off. Henry turns back to the boys when they've already disappeared.
"That was a close one" pants Zak. Josh nods his head. "Oh no" mumbles Josh. Zak turns around to see what Josh is looking at, when he sees Henry walking towards them. "Thought you could get away, didn't you?" laughs Henry. Josh starts counting down from 3. "What are you counting for, weirdo?" asks Henry glancing at Josh. As soon as Josh reaches the number 1, the boys run off but Henry follows them. "Go faster" yells Zak looking to see where Henry is while running. Josh trips over his laces. "Quick, get up" worries Zak. Josh gets up before Henry catches him. They all run into the forest. "Look, a house. Maybe we can hide in there" says Josh. Henry gets closer. The boys run towards the house. "Oh no, there's police everywhere" lies Zak. Henry turns around. "What police?" asks Henry as he starts to walk home. The boys are already in the house. "Nice job Zak" smiles Josh as they walk into the house. Zak looks out the window to see if Henry is still there. "He's gone" exclaims Zak. Josh locks the door just in case Henry comes back. "This house is pretty creepy" sighs Zak.
"Zak, do you think we should stay the night here?" asks Josh as he looks at his watch. Zak shrugs. "I mean, it's 9:30pm. It's too dark to walk home and we don't have a flashlight" explains Josh. Zak rolls his eyes. "Our parents are going to be worried" sighs Zak. Josh picks up an old phone. "Just call them then" says Josh as he hands Zak the phone. Zak takes the phone and dials his mum's number when the phone cord breaks. "Damnit" screams Zak as he slams the phone to the ground.
Josh sits on the stairs and sighs. "What do we do now?" wonders Zak. Josh shrugs. Zak walks around the house when he hears a voice. "What was that?" asks Josh as his eyes widen. Zak looks at the stairs. Josh walks over to where Zak is. "There's something upstairs" exclaims Zak. Josh looks up at the stairs. "Maybe something just fell. We are alone, aren't we?" worries Josh. "I hope so" says Zak nervously.
The boys start to walk up the stairs slowly. "Get out" says a faint voice. The boys look around them. "I'm getting a creepy vibe about being here" shakes Zak. "Me too" whispers Josh. The boys finally reach the top of the stairs. A door swings open. "Oh my-" says Zak with a shaky voice. The boys enter the room and see an old man looking out the window.
"Hello?" asks Josh. The door slams shut. Zak jumps in fright. "Get out of my house" exclaims the old man. The boys look at each other. "W-We were just using your house for protection, sir" stutters Zak. The man clutches his teeth together. "My house isn't here so you can hide. It's made for good use" sighs the man. The boys open the room door and walk out the room. "Wait- who were you hiding from?" questions the man. The boys turn around. "A school bully" answers Josh. The door closes.
The boys walk out the front door and look around. "To be honest, I didn't want to leave. I felt safe there" exclaims Zak. Josh rolls his eyes. "You felt safe with an old man?" laughs Josh. Zak sighs as he sees something out the corner of his eye. "J-Josh, I don't feel safe anymore" stutters Zak. Josh raises his eyebrow. "Why?" questions Josh. Zak points to a dead body. The boys take a step back. "Zak, go get help" yells Josh. Zak runs to the old man's door and knocks on the door. "Sir, please help us" screams Zak. The old man opens the door. "Please help us. A girl is dead" cries Zak pointing to the decomposed body. The man opens the door wider. "Get inside, now" exclaims the man. The boys run inside.
