"I loved you, Draco Malfoy, and I always do!" Hermione cried.
She couldn't believe what happened, or why it did happen. She could not even comprehend the scene she came home to. There were shattered wine glasses on the floor, papers scattered all over the tables, and there's water or red-coloured liquid all over the place - probably wine or alcohol. Their house was just a mess, and it was Draco Malfoy who made them.
"No, Hermione, you don't! You pity me! That's why - that's what it is!" Draco shouted at the top of his lungs those words at her.
He stood on the damp floor, hands mindlessly dishevelling his platinum blonde hair, and his feet took him back and forth across the room. Hermione gaped at him, but a hand covered her mouth.
"Wha-what are you t-talking about?" Stuttered Hermione as she slowly walked towards the distraught man. Her shaking hands tried to reach his arm, but he shifted away.
Stopping on his tracks, he stared at her with swollen, teary eyes, and his arms wrapped tightly around his chest. The sound of his heavy breathing added to the tension of the atmosphere, and her heart beat faster than like lightning.
"Everytime you look at me, I could see it… I could see it in your eyes, Hermione..." She gave him a puzzled look, "I could see mercy, I could see your compassion in those kind, gentle eyes of yours…"
"It's because I do care for you, Draco!"
"No! You don't! You just feel sorry for me that's why you took me in in the first place. I don't even deserve to be here, I shouldn't be here. You should've let me rot in Azkaban!"
Hermione spun around. She couldn't take it seeing him in agony, in this pain. But sooner enough, she realized her eyes were also flowing with tears, and the pain in her heart caused her difficulty in grasping for air.
"Everytime you conversate with Potter and Weasley, you always talk about how misery my life is, how much I needed help, and how my life has been so full of shit!" Draco kicked the sofa as it flipped, causing Hermione to jump in startlement. "And you, does it feel good taking all the credit? Being Miss Goody Two Shoes? The saviour of my world? Being the one who brought me to the light-"
Hermione's slap on his face halted him from talking any further. Draco's eyes widened - his hand touched his stinging cheek. He watched the tears that left her eyes as they both stood in silence. Having the urge to hit him again, Hermione closed her eyes, clenched her fist in the air, and hid it behind her back. She was shaking up from her head to her toes.
"Yes, I felt so sorry for you. Your father - in Azkaban. Your mother - sent to St. Mungo's. That night, I saw you… I saw you crying and shouting at a dark alley. I knew you have nowhere to go so I, I asked you if you want to stay with me so I can help…" she looked deep into his eyes and continued, "but I didn't plan this - falling in love with you - it just happened.
"And do I regret any of this? No..." She declared while still crying her heart out.
Draco's head was down all the time, but Hermione knew he was weeping silently due to the tears dripping on his shoes. She lifted her slender hands, reached his face, and started tracing the line of his jaw. Once her fingers reached his chin, she lifted them to fully see his face. Immediately, she started wiping the tears from his cheeks. He mirrored her gesture as he also dried her cheeks with his fingers.
They both dried each other's cheeks and she chuckled. "I regret none, Draco, so please-" her voice cracked, and she began to feel her eyes sore again, "don't you ever doubt my love for you again, don't you dare think so low of yourself ever again!"
The platinum blonde's arms wrapped around the brunette's body, embracing her as his face buried on her neck. Tears continued to fall as he sobbed on her shoulder. Hermione's own arms snaked around his body as well, hugging him tight while resting her head on his shoulder.
"I'm so sorry, Hermione… I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" Draco muttered, clasping her firm in his arms.
"Shh, it's alright... Draco, it's alright..." Assured Hermione as she patted his hair, attempting to restore into the style she had always loved, and she whispered, "I love you…"
"I love you too, Hermione… I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, love…"
