I was three-years-old, and I was home alone. I was playing with my dolls when I heard the lock turn. I immediately thought it was my family, so I dashed to the door, excited that I didn't have to be alone anymore. To my surprise, the person standing at the door was a stranger. I panicked, wondering who he was and what he wanted. "Don't panic, I just have something to give you — if you accept it, of course," he said.
I paused, remembering what my parents told my twin and I about strangers: Stranger Danger. I managed to say, "What do you want to give me?"
The man replied, "My name is Eric, and I would like to give you a special power."
I immediately lit up, because I had dreamed since I was two about having powers. "What type of powers?" I asked eagerly.
"The power to bring people back from the dead! There are some drawbacks, though... when you bring someone back from the dead, whatever age they are, that number will be how many years are taken off of your life; the person you love the most will also be taken away from you, at any time," Eric answered.
I was only a child, so I had no idea what half of what Eric said meant. Still ecstatic, I answered, "YES, PLEASE!"
Eric laughed, and snapped his fingers; I felt a rush, then I passed out.
