Another character I really wanted to dive into when it comes to character arcs is Nancy.

We first found Nancy waking up late after the power outage, rushing because she cannot be late when it comes to working at Hawkins post.

One thing I disliked was Nancy overriding what Jonathan had to say when he was telling her everything would be okay with the other employees. I don't understand how she just felt the need to ignore that when he was so sweet.

He told her that once they found out about how gifted a writer Nancy was that they'd come around to her. But they had just began at the post therefore the workers there weren't very impressed with her.

Being that she was ALSO on an internship.

But, please don't take this as me shitting on Nancy. I loved most of her arc of feminism. But honestly, part of it just feels like Max's type of feminism.

Rushed, and seen from a male perspective, and seen as selfish. It comes off as selfish when it really should seem like she's taking a stand against sexism (which she is).

In some situations, would I have acted like she did, storming out upset because they didn't care about her ideas? Yes. They were extremely unfair to her when she gave out good ideas for them to use.

Nancy's arc showed me how supportive Karen can be, but we aren't to that point yet.

Tom told her to drop the case constantly, and Jonathan hoped and prayed that she would, so they wouldn't get fired. And because he loves her he wanted to stick by her side.

That is the reason they go back to Mrs. Driscoll's when Tom told them not to. She tells him to give her the keys if he doesn't want to go, and yet, he just goes with her. Even though he knew they were going against their boss.

He wanted to believe she was right because he loves and cares about her.

This obviously leads them to seeing Mrs. Driscoll eating fertilizer, and authorities getting involved, leading to their inevitable firing.

Tom is also much more irritable and aggressive, y'know, being that he was flayed? And he fires them immediately.

I think something I had a problem with was Nancy not caring more about Jonathan's regrets and anger against getting fired. He has good points.

But she writes it off as 'the Oliver Twist routine' and doesn't pay attention because she's too focused on what's upsetting her.

Mortgage, college tuition. He is completely correct to worry about those things. I mean, they are real world things that, after their final year of high school, they're going to have to worry about.

Or well, Jonathan is gonna have to worry about. Because Nancy will obviously get her tuition paid by her parents.

Of course, she was a victim to sexism. And Jonathan doesn't know what it's like, but in a way, that gave Nancy a glimpse into his life where he was constantly bullied and tormented just for the way he acted.

Now, I'm not saying that sexism and bullying are the same, but for once she got to see that, and feel what it could be like.

The way Jonathan was always called a freak, and how Tommy H. and Carol joked about him killing Will, and she just witnessed it. She didn't understand the weight of their words.

She didn't even understand how much he must've felt when Steve broke his camera. I mean, within a month he got a new one, but he was so scared that was it. And that his dreams of photography were crushed.

Getting that internship at Hawkins post meant so much to him, because it meant that he might be able to do photography full time if they liked his work.
