I got up a few hours later and did my daily routine. I left my room in distressed black jeans, a black tank top and a red leather jacket before going to grab breakfast.

"Morning mi familia! How did everyone sleep?"

Dad flipped the pancakes on the stove while Mom poured juice for everyone, both having smiles on their faces . They were truly a couple I looked up to.
"Why do you have to be so cheerful so damn early H?", Luca asked while laying on the kitchen island, "It's like 6am".

"It's nearly noon L. You were clearly up all night", I say while nudging him.

"Well if it isn't the Vega family. Splendid morning we're having, aren't we?", my best friend Connor says

"Come in Connor. We haven't seen you in so long.", Mom pulled him into a bone-crushing embrace and pecked his cheek.

"It's only been summer break Aunt J,"  he shrugged while scratching his neck. He turned to me and gave me his most breath-taking smile that gave me butterflies.

Okay, what was that? That's never happened before...

Connor and I go way back. To the day we were born actually. Funny how we're best friends who were coincidentally born on the same day, same hospital but different times though. He's a few hours older than me. Mom and Aunt Vanessa (Connor's mom) became friends ever since then. We ended up growing up with each other and now we're here.

"You ready to go?", I asked.  "Sure, I want some of your dad's famous pancakes first though. They're absolute heaven!", he replied.

We made plans to get our school supplies for Monday together to avoid the back-to-school drama. Senior year.

I'm definitely not ready for it.

Connor and I found ourselves going to all the stores in the mall and were now heading to the food court.

"So Vega, what are we eating today?"

"I could go for some pizza. What say you Mason? You up for some cheesy goodness?", I retorted.

"If it is what the princess desires, then so it shall be", he said before bowing and laughing. An older couple walked by and smiled at us. "Remember when you used to do that for me?", the woman commented to her husband. He nodded before pecking her lips and they walked away.

"That was adorable", I gushed.
"Me or the old couple?", Connor joked.
"Definitely the old couple. You gross me out", I say while laughing.
"You hurt me right here", he said while holding a hand over his heart.

We laughed and went to order our pizza.

"2 large double crusted meat lover's pizzas with extra cheese and 2 Cokes please. "

"That'll be R179,95."
I grab my purse from my bag but Connor beats me to it and hands a R200 to the cashier.

"Hey! I was gonna get that!"
" Let's face it Hunter, you took too long. A guy's gotta eat!", he exclaimed while rubbing his stomach.

"You're already big as it is. You need a salad", I retorted.
"You hurt me Vega, you really do"

"Yeah, yeah. Come on Connor, you're holding up the line."

A few hours and half our pizzas later, we end up at Connor's place and watch a movie.

"I've never understood why you like this movie so much H. It's terrible. I mean why would she go to law school just to get her ex back. She could've moved on to someone better. Like the other lawyer guy."

"Would you stop explaining Legally Blonde to me? We're watching it and that's final Connor."

"Girls and their issues", he mutters.
"Wanna repeat that to the world and not just your nose?",  he says nothing, "Thought so."

This is  going to be a long night...
