CHAPTER EIGHT
' THANK FUCK, YOU'RE OKAY. '

The moment Rogers called for them to engage, chaos erupted around them. Ash knew she couldn't keep up with everyone else's pace as they charged forward, so she threw her hands down to propel herself into the air. Her hair whipped around her head as Ash bawled her hands together. Magic exploded within her palms, and she sent it spiralling to the ground, destroying a group of Outriders before they could engage a group of Asgardians. She continued to bombard them with air attacks before she let herself fall from the sky.

Her height gave her momentum, and her magic buzzed over her form. As she impacted the ground, energy ricocheted out and collided with the ground, which caused a sonic boom to shoot out as she straightened. Ash's eyes flickered over the bodies lying around her, getting used to being able to see with both of them again.

The space soon filled again, and she darted her hands to her sides. They caused a blast to fly out and burn through a Chitauri gorilla's heart. She brought her hands together but paused, leaving a small gap. A small ball began to form as she manipulated it. Forcing them out diagonally, the steady streams of magic connected the ball to each hand before she twisted her hands. She crossed them over her chest and threw them towards the ground. The magic disappeared into the dirt, but after a brief moment, black vines caught every enemy in her area. They were dragged back and forced into the soil. Slowly they sank into the earth, their frantic screams filling her ears.

An eruption of black magic shot from her form, and she fell to one knee. Breathing heavily, one of her hands moved from the ground to her leg, keeping her from collapsing. Her eyes flickered up as a swarm of Chituari charged at her, and she inhaled sharply before pushing herself to her feet.

She twirled her hand, and magic formed in it. Just as she was about to attack, blaster shots erupted over her head and on either side of her, causing her to twist to look at them.

Peter Quill used his jetpack to stop before her, and Ash gently reached forward to touch the side of his face. "You're back," she whispered.

"You thought you could get rid of me?" The siblings grinned at each other before they embraced tightly.

Ash buried her head into his shoulder, fists clenching the fabric of his jacket. "I have some bangers to show you." They pulled apart, Ash shoving his shoulder before wiping some wetness from under her eye.

"Are you crying?" Peter asked.

"Shut up." She glared at him before she noticed the tears in his eyes too. "Fuck you."

"Fuck you, too."

They engaged in the frenzy, the rest of the Guardians (bar Gamora and Nebula) working around each other and mowing down their opposition. Ash propelled herself into the air and flipped onto a Leviathan. She smashed her fist against its head, and magic exploded from it, ripping apart its head and causing them to plummet downwards.

Ash grabbed onto a piece of metal which stuck out to keep her from flying off. She curled her free hand and conjured a shield in front of her. Closing her eyes, the Leviathan crashed into the ground, and the momentum threw Ash into the air. She clenched her fists and flung a ball of magic onto the floor. The black mist cushioned her fall, but she still hit the ground hard, rolling along the floor with the momentum.

As she spat out a piece of blood, her eyes flickered up and locked with Ebony Maw. A bloody grin formed on her face as she pushed herself up, wiping away the red liquid which dribbled from her nose.

"You are on the wrong side, Field Marshal."

Magic formed in her grip, and she tilted her head. "I'll try not to play too much. You're not a toy, after all."

Ash moved first and used her magic to launch a piece of rubble at him. He turned it to sharp rocks before it collided with him and turned it back on her. Creating a shield, she blocked the first few waves before curling her hand and capturing one. She ducked and let the protection crumble before throwing her hand out and launching the rock dagger back at its maker.

She used his moment of distraction to hide, conjuring a whip and lashing his face. The strike sent him to the ground, and Ash pushed herself to jump over the rock she used to hide behind. Unrelentless, she continued to bombard Ebony Maw with her magic, his form becoming increasingly battered.

He gasped and rolled onto his back, blood dripping from his mouth and a large gash on his face. Ash stopped beside him, drawing up her magic and creating vines which shot out of the ground and curled around his limbs.

They hoisted and suspended him before her, his head lolling limply.

Ash looked up at him, a protective shield forming around them to stop enemies from getting close. "Let's give you a taste of your own medicine, hm?" As she clenched her fist, his body jerked, and his back arched, a scream tearing from his throat. Ash watched him writhe and shout, body contorting with pain, and a grin formed on her face.

Something collided with her body and sent her spiralling to the ground. A burst of magic erupted from her, and she groaned. Another thing fell from the sky, and she rolled onto her back, finding the sky raining with blasts.

"Rain fire?" she murmured to herself before she banged the heels of her hands together and threw them upwards. A shield burst from her palms and met the other golden protection forming in the sky.

She pushed herself to her feet, stumbling before falling back to her knees. She gasped, hand coming to her head before wiping blood from her nose. Her eyes flickered from the crimson and to the body of Ebony Maw, whose head laid the wrong way. Ash sniffed before shaking her head and getting to her feet again.

"Ash!"

She whipped around, and she erupted into a sprint. "Oh, my God, Peter." Ash enveloped him in a hug, squeezing him tightly and squeezing her eyes shut. "Oh, thank fuck, you're okay." Pushing him away so she could get a better look at him, her face lightened with a grin.

"Yeah, I'm okay," he replied, nodding before he handed her the Gauntlet.

"Oh, look, you have something for me." She stared at it before she lifted her hand to her earpiece. "Guys, I have the Gauntlet. Where are we going with this?"

"Lang's van! Danvers is getting it sorted!" Rogers replied.

"Where is-" Ash turned in a circle before she found it. "Oh, shit, yeah, I see it. Fuck." Masses of Chitauri and Outriders blocked her path.

"I don't know how you're gonna get it through all that," Peter spoke quietly.

"Yeah, me neither."

Wanda landed next to her, and then Valkyrie stepped forward on Pegasus. Ash and Peter turned to see others joining them, charging their powers and weapons.

"Don't worry," Wanda replied.

"She's got help," Okoye finished.

The corners of Ash's lips rose, and she adjusted her grip on the Gauntlet, letting her magic curl around her arms. The black mist lifted her into the air and thrust her forward. She shot through the air as the women and Peter defended her.

But, as she reached the van, a sword darted through the air, destroying the vehicle. The explosion broke her momentum and sent her flying backwards. She hit the ground hard, causing the Gauntlet to scatter away.

Ash coughed, looking to the side where her eyes fell on Thanos' shoe.
