The wind got knocked out of my lungs as my back collided with the ground of the security room. The crazed student foamed at the mouth as he bear crawled his way toward me. Barely able to draw breath I rolled into a standing position and bolted out the door. The sounds off Aidon yelling at me followed me into the hallway but I couldn't make out what he said. With a mob of students on my trail I ran down the hall opposite the direction of the classroom the rest of the group is in. The thing about this newly built building is that even though it is one long structure its essentially built like a PB&J sandwich. The office, the library the security room, make up the front slice of the bread. The freshmen classrooms make up the bottom slice the peanut butter is the student bathrooms and the cyber lab is the jelly. I ran past the office and Library and entered the cyber lab.
The computer lab sits at the center of the building. It is large enough to hold four classrooms with dividers that can separate the room into individual classrooms. Being the first day of the school semester freshmen students would be required to take an online seminar. At the moment the dividers have been pulled out to give each class privacy. I engage the lock on the door in time to hear a student collide two and three at a time with the door. Quietly I dashed across the room to engage the lock on the other doors. Unlike classroom doors the lab doors can be pushed open with the slightest pressure.
Lucky for me I entered a classroom that had no students crazed or not inside. Reaching the divider I slowly and quietly slide it just enough to allow for a small crack between it and the wall. Not finding any infected students within view I pushed the divider further widening the crack in order to expand my view of the room inside. Quite low based beeping sounds floated around the classroom. Crazed students are drawn to noises any kind of noise and is easily disoriented. If there are any students in here they might be distracted by what ever noise this is.
Inch by inch I pushed the divider far enough to stick my head into the classroom. Just as I suspected a group of students stood around a computer rooted to the spot. On the computer is a video game demo replaying its theme song. The noise is attracting students from out in the hall every few minutes a random student would push the door open and shuffle his way toward the computer.
With quick feet I dashed across the classroom and before any other students could wonder in I locked the door. Shooting a look at the occupied students I continued my mission the following classrooms where empty. Assuming that the game demo in lab 2 attracted them all into one central location. Thats good... I guess. Knowing where the threat is I can plan accordingly but as it stands I have no way out of this place until the crowd of students in the hall move on. I doubt they will do that anytime soon knowing that I am in here. I slumped to the floor and held my head in my hands. The faint sounds of the game demo two rooms over provide background noise in my brain as I think about what my next move should be.
Aidon and the others have all the tools needed to get out of the school. They are probably making preparations to leave when Aidon got back to the classroom. They might not even come look for me. Zoe and Sariah might come looking for me though. I shake my head I hope not they will just get themselves killed.
Gooseflesh began rising on my arms and the peach fuzz stood on end at the back of my neck. With a sharp intake of breath I pushed myself backwards into a computer monitor narrowly missing the student who was about to take a bite out of my cranium. Red rimmed yellow eyes trailed me as I shuffled back in disbelief. The video game demo is still playing I can hear the music float from room to room. Why isn't this student disoriented like the others?
With quick strides the student approached me drool spilled from his mouth as a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. Scrambling to my feet I jumped over the table to get some space between me and this student.
