Because I Promised

"What is so important you have to interrupt me at this time of the night, Eren?"

Jaegar had just now entered my office. Annoyed because I was deep into my paperwork, I felt grouchy and snappy at the moment. Especially since it was slightly late in the night. That alone by itself made things grumpier for the me.

But Eren, who usually had a serious frown on his face every time he came here, was looking nervous and fiddling with his fingers behind his back. I didn't know what was up, but honestly, I really couldn't care less. All I wanted to do was pack up my papers and lye down in my comfy, warm, cozy bed.

"I-"

Eren's shaky voice snapped me out of my thoughts. "What is it?"

"Um... I just wanted to tell you s-something, and I was kind of not...That...Confident about it, because you might not agree, and I know how people think and act and have different minds-"

"Just get to the point, Jaegar."

Suddenly, with a sigh, Eren's odd, shaky voice transformed into a serious, sturdy one, with clearness high in it, and looking as if he was forcing the confidence to spill over himself. "I want you to make a promise. With me."

For a moment, both of us stared at each other. Sweaty Eren waiting for me to speak, and I not knowing what to say.

Finally, after what seemed like a solid 3 minutes, I broke the silence, startling the boy. "I will not make a promise I cannot keep. It fully depends on what your promise is. Explain that now."

"Well..." Eren shifted a bit, squirming uncomfortably, his eyes flickering nearly every spot of the room. Finally, they fell hooked on mine, and with that serious, staring gaze, I actually couldn't get my own eyes to pull away.

"I want you to promise me that if things ever, you know, get out of control, me being a titan-shifter and all, you will slay me right then and there. Please, and I'm begging you sir, do not let me go loose."

...

Of course, I was slightly taken aback at this mini speech. It was something I definitely did not expect.

But Eren's voice went hushed and soft, almost in a whimper. "If-if I ever kill anyone or hurt someone...I don't know what I'd do with myself. Please, Captain, I'm begging you! Just please promise me you would kill me if I got too dangerous!"

I went silent. Of course I could just promise him, but would I really be able to do that? I have had feelings for Eren which I once tried desperately to deny, but it was no use at all. I couldn't get over the boy. Now, watching him towering over my desk and wanting to keep a deathly promise with me, I felt slightly uneasy. How could I just slay someone I had... Feelings... For?!

But I knew that would be the right thing to do in that type of situation. Also, Eren so badly wanted me to keep this promise.

I sighed irritably, resting my elbow on my desk and holding my forehead. "Listen, Eren. This isn't such an easy promise to keep. But if you want it that badly, I will seal our promise."

"..." Eren slowly straightened his back as he backed away from my bureau. He then ran his fingers through his hair slowly, his widened eyes not blinking once. "A-are you serious? You're actually gonna keep this promise?"

"But first, we must seal it," I repeated, my voice a bit more stern. I stood up, startling the teen, then stomped my way over to him, right in front of him.

"Heiichou? How are we gonna seal a promiMM-"

Eren's confused voice was cut off quick as I snatched his chin and tilted it downward, seizing his lips with mine. Though that sounded pretty harsh, I was actually soft with the boy. His lips were plush and squishy, not to mention frozen. Eren couldn't move, and I knew I probably shouldn't have done it, but I opened my eyes to take a peek. As I did, his own eyes caught mine, and Eren's cheeks flushed such a deep colour I thought he was going to explode.
