🌾————————————🌾"Mama? Why can't I go outside?" The six year old spoke in a fragile yet saddened tone.
She stares among the cherry trees that were in full bloom as the wind blows across the crops of the small rice farm.
The gentle girl smiles as her dark brown hair blows in the wind. Her blue eyes staring across the sea of land is what she called it. The fields move side to side as her mother sits down next to the small girl."Because mommy can't protect you outside these walls... you must stay here. I promise... nothing can get you if you stay here." The mother whispers softly, her eyes gentle as she rubs her daughters back.
Yuki sadly holds the small river guardian dragon plush in her arms as it squeaks softly. Sighing gently she began to wonder. Why? What's out there? Why is mommy so worried?
Yuri sighs and pulls her daughter from the window as she shuts the window then closes the window shutters. They were heavy and seemed unnecessary. For Yuri it was the only way to protect her daughter from the world beyond theirs. This was going to be a long night. Yuri knew her daughter would never be safe from the spirits. No matter how far they ran or how many times they hid from the prying eyes that her daughter never saw. They would never escape the contract the mother made those many years ago.
Doing her normal nightly routine she closes all the windows and locks them and sets a large heavy board in the slots to help. Then picking up her daughter she carries her downstairs. To the basement where her daughters room was. There was lots magic seals and herbs around the door to ward off spirits and evil demons.
Yuki yawns and holds her plush close as Yuri takes a deep breath opening the large heavy wooden doors with one hand as she smiles gently. Her daughter gently asleep in her arms her head resting on her mother's shoulder. Yuri's long dark brown hair moves back and forth as it was messy from this morning's work. Making her way down the wooden stairs to the basement. Laying her daughter in the small bed she touches Yuki's head. Smiling gently the seal still placed upon Yuki. As she picks up the box of matches from the night stand and lights the candles around the room she kissed her daughters head goodnight before walking upstairs.
Yuri steps outside the big wooden doors placing yet another seal upon them and a talisman. She places herbs and salts around the edge then she claps her hands together bowing softly and whispering a soft prayer. As she lights the candles then barricades the door and the rest of the windows. Just before night fell upon the farm. Making her way to the kitchen she sets the tea kettle upon the burner and lights the stove. She sits down and waits as the wind could be heard screeching outside. Yuri looks at the clock upon the wall being a young priestess she would do anything to protect her daughter.
The wind called out Yuki's name as it whipped and made the dust blow across the ground. Yuri sat there she knew he would be here soon. She began counting from 10.
...10... The wind whips and screams
...9... The dust blows across the ground
...8... The door handle jiggles up an down
...7...Spirits knock and call for me...
...6... The screams of the spirits being killed
...5... Silence
...4... Noises upon the roof
...3... Deafening Roar of the beast
...2... The pounding on the door and shaking of the windows.
...1... He's here for Yuki.Yuri opens her eyes and stares at the door her bright blue eyes glaring. As the shadow of a large creature sat upon the porch. The thunder rumbles loudly as Yuri stands up and grips her staff and her seals. He would not be getting close anytime soon. He would not be taking her daughter away from her. Yuki was not ready for the deal yet she would never know.
