Chapter 5 - Unexpected Surprises

Nothing is worse than a ticking clock in a silent room, it's like a reminder that time is passing while you're just sitting there. And just my luck I wake up to that sound in what I guess is the nurses' room do to the strong smell of Lysol and hand sanitizer. I finally get enough motivation to open my eyes and sit up, which was a terrible idea. I sit up with a groan as my head throbs. Someone across the room clears their throat when I finally sit up right, when my eyes finally adjusts I see Lance sitting in a chair looking extremely uncomfortable.

"How are you feeling sleepy girl?" Lance said to me with a side smirk. I groan in response and point to my head; he gets the gesture and goes to grab the nurse who comes back with 2 Advil's.

"So just to make sure you don't have any major damage to your head can you tell me what happened." She looked so innocent when she spoke and made you feel at home, sort of like coming home to your bed after a long vacation.

"Well for one that bitch Mandy was all up in my face yelling at me about its 'her boyfriend'" I fume over my small cup of water I drank with my pain medication "Excuse my French, but I may have to actually cut her! It was her who hit me with the god for shaken ball wasn't it" I glared at Lance, I could almost feel the steam coming out of my ears

"Well... actually it wasn't Mandy." My jaw hit the floor, I was still gonna cut her no ifs, ands, or buts about it. "It was her little minion Kelsey. Mandy stormed out of the gym after I mocked her in front of everyone." He laughed at the memory.

"He's so cute when he smiles" My inner wolf tells me

"Oh well long time no see to you to missy!" I practically yell to my wolf "I haven't talked to you like all day! No need we can discuss this later right now we need to be preparing ourselves to cut that little hoe bag Mandy." I was brought out of my thoughts of revenge when Lance picked me up and started carrying me towards the nearest exit. He said a quick thank you over his shoulder while we left.

"Come on my little minx we are taking the rest of the day off" He whispers into my ear. I fall asleep in the car going to sleep of the thought of how fast things are going for me and Lance and completely scaring me

"Come on Cindy, it's time to get up" Lance kisses my cheek and walks around the car to open my door. I notice we pulled up in front of a small burger shop.

"Where are we Lance?" I look at his piercing smile, whiter than new snow fall on Christmas. You could get lost in his hazel eyes and plump pink lips.

"Whenever you're done admiring my beauty," he winked at me. "it's a small burger joint right on the outskirts of town. I was just thinking maybe we could eat a little something than maybe going bowling after. Only if that's cool with you though." Lance looked down at the wheel and blushed. Damn, he was hella cute.

"Yes Lance that's fine" I smile at him and lean over to peck his cheek. "Now let's go eat I'm starving!" I hop out the car and hear him chuckle at me as I skip away.

"So why are you a rouge anyway?" Lance says while biting into his bacon cheeseburger "You can tell me if you want, as long as you're comfortable with it" He reaffirmed.

"Well it's a long story, but I guess I should tell you. You're gonna find out anyhow so might as well." He takes his rough man hands into mine and squeezes lightly. This helps me dive right into the story

When my mother was pregnant with me she and my father were heavy drinkers and were doing drugs. The pack doctor warned them that if my mother didn't stop I would be born with some defects not only normal human birth defects but also problems involving my wolf. Neither of my parents heeded his warning.

Well one late night in June I finally decided to come out. I came out fine and healthy, but my doctor knew there was something wrong with my wolf. They told my mom and dad that I would most likely be a late bloomer or I might not have a wolf at all. My father didn't take that news very well, so he told my mother that if she didn't get rid of me he was going to get rid of her. She of course chooses him, so they left me right on the line of the neighboring packs border line. That's where the patrol for that pack found me. The alpha hadn't found his mate yet, but he decided to take me in and raise me himself. All worked out fine, when he found his mate she fell in love with me, all the other kids played with me like I was like them.

It wasn't until all the other pups started to gain their wolves and train did I realize that I was different. Alpha Jackson sat me down and told me everything. He ended up doing some background checks on me and that's how I know all this. Alpha Jackson took me to many pack doctors who did nothing but test on me trying to arise my wolf, we went to witches to see if they could do something. We found nothing there. Finally he gave up. He told me he loved me more than anything else, but he couldn't have any weak links in his pack. Therefore, he taught me how to hunt like a human, fish, build a fire, take shelter. You know to keep myself protected.

One day he sat me down in his office and told me that next week I would have to go. He would see me to the pack border and let me roam. He said he set me up a bank account with some money to start up. I didn't cry, he told me crying was a weakness. But I also know how humiliating it would be for him to walk me away to what could possibly be my death. So that night I packed my bag and left a note outside the Alpha's office and set off to neutral land between his pack and the other. It was rough the first few weeks; I was close to starving and dehydration. I went from town to town asking for any throw away jobs nobody wanted to raise a small amount of money or for them to just feed me.

It was one night I had built a little shelter with this old trap I found in the trash. My bones started to break and crack. It was a pain like no other, I cried and called out for Alpha Jackson, I knew he wouldn't hear me I was miles away.

Luckily for me it didn't last long, I ran and ran until I couldn't run anymore. I was running in the direction of Alpha Jackson's pack house. What I wasn't expecting was seeing his pack under attack by a group of rabid rouges. I couldn't intervene they would think I was working against them.

The last thing I saw was Alpha Jackson pushing his family away and then turning around to fight 3 rouges. He was killed and I saw the pain in his mate's eyes, but she knew she needed to get her kids to safety. She saw me watching and I think she knew it was me. I was the only one who saw them get away. She nodded her head to me and ran away. So did I, I ran in her direction and watched over her from a distance, trying to direct her in the direction of a nice pack I came across a few weeks ago. It was one night she found me a few yards away from her temporary camp. We were both in our human form

"Cindy is it really you?" I nodded my head to shocked to think she actually came up and spoke to me. What I didn't expect was for her to slap me "You could have helped Jackson! After all he did for you; you just sat there and watched him get killed! How could you! Get lost Cindy just leave me and my family alone!" She was in tears by now, so I said nothing and just ran. Like all those times before.

"So that's how I ended up here. I found my little group rouges a few months ago and you know the rest." I looked down trying to hide the tears coming out of my eyes. I had only told Zach this and bringing it up again made part of my heart rip open again. Lance said nothing and just walked over to my side of the booth. I don't know how long we held each other, all I do know is I ruined his shirt with my make-up. When we finally broke apart the front door to the burger joint busted open... in all of my dreams I never would have seen this one coming. Just great!
