The harsh beeping of her alarm drove Rebecca out of bed that morning, stumbling across the room to turn it off before it gave her a migraine. She wrestled her uniform on before staggering down the stairs to make breakfast.
"Hey Becca" Julian, her little brother, said.
Rebecca grunted in response.
"Hey where's the rest of the coco pops!" Jules screamed looking frantically around the room.
"Jeez Jules, you're gonna wake up the whole city, don't worry they're right here" Rebecca said contently patting her stomach
As Jules caught on he glared at her, "you know I hate you, right?"
"I know" she replied as she skipped happily back up to her room.
She slumped down on her bed picking up her phone. There was a new notification on instagram! She quickly opened it up and found help_is_here had already replied to her message, "thankyou so so so so much! It really brightens my day to see someone taking notice! Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" She smiled down at her phone and quickly punched in a reply "Why are you thanking me?! You've done all the hard work and it makes my day to see that someone put in the effort to helping others! ;)"
She dropped her phone back onto the bed and packed her bag for school. When she went down stairs to make her lunch, she found Jules sitting glumly at the bowl on soggy weetbix in front of him. When he looked up at her with a death glare she simply smiled back "Cheer up Juliet, you can go back on you diet now"
"Ok but Roberto, if I'm on a diet, then why aren't you taking steroids?" Jules fired back with a false smile
It was an old game they played, She would pretend he was a girl (Juliet) that was really girly and was always on some new diet, and then he would pretend that she was a really buff manly guy called Roberto who was always on steroids and worked out 24/7.
It might have been weird but it didn't matter because Jules was smiling now and made a start on his increasingly saturated weetbix.
Rebecca finished making her lunch (a small sandwich and an apple, she didn't eat much) and then jogged up the stairs to her room, putting her lunch in her bag.
She checked the time on her phone and nearly had a heart attack. It was 8:00 and she had to get the bus at 8:10! She sprinted into the bathroom, brushed her teeth, hair and put on a dab of lip-gloss (Rebecca was generally opposed to make up. Not on everyone else, just on herself) then grabbed her bag and ran out the door, yelling goodbyes as the door shut behind her.

She half ran to the bus stop, stopping only to quickly check that her skirt was straight in a shop window as she passed.
As she arrived at the bus stop, she looked around and realised she was the only one there, which meant everyone had already left! She'd missed the bus! The timetable said the next bus wouldn't be coming for another half an hour, so Rebecca just decided to suck it up and walk. If the bus caught up with her, she'd just hop on.
As she made her way down the road, following the bus route so she could see the bus if it came up behind her, she heard the sound of vibrant swearing behind her. Rebecca turned back and saw a boy in her school uniform swearing at the bus timetable and walking fustratedly in circles.
"Hey" she called out, and when he didn't reply she called again, louder this time, "hey, dude!"
He turned around to look at her, "I missed the bus too, d'ya wanna walk with me" Rebecca said, pointing over her shoulder in the direction of the road.
He stared blankly at her for a second before silently nodding and walking up to her as she waited before turning around and continuing on her way. She looked over at him before clearing her throat and saying "hi, I'm Rebecca" and extending her hand sideways to him. He took it and shook before adding "Um, I'm Brendon" then he quickly dropped her hand and stared at the path in front of them silently.
She had never seen him at school before and he looked around her age, but she knew for a fact there was no one called Brendon in her the year below her or above her, and defiantly not in her year. So after a while of pondering, she decided to just blurt it out, "soareyounewhere?"
He looked at her and cautiously, as always is seemed, replied, "Yeah, I came from St Edwards"
She just looked at him for a second, thinking. The name rang so many bells it wasn't funny, but she just couldn't remember where it was from. "That's cool, is it near here, it sounds familiar?"
"Um, kinda" He answered, slowly as always "I don't know why you would know it though, not many people from around here go there, well" he rethought "not many people you would know anyway" he finished, the corner of his mouth twitching up a little before he returned his gaze to the concrete.

When they got to school the bell had rung over 15 minutes ago, but it was still earlier than it would have been if they'd waited for the bus.
They hadn't spoken for the rest of the walk, just silently travelled together till they reached the school gates and went to their respective classes.
Rebecca didn't know what was going through Brendon's head as they walked, but she had spent the whole time trying to remember where she had heard the school from before. She knew she had heard it before she just couldn't remember where! It was on the tip of her tongue, it was so aggravating!
She pushed it to the back of her mind, it would come to her later and it wasn't important anyway.
Rebecca silently pushed the door to her classroom and saw her friends sitting on the other side of the classroom. She cursed under her breath; she would have to be a ninja if she was going to get across the room without the teacher noticing. Luckily ninja was her speciality. She made eye contact with Lucia her bestie from the door, and Lucia immediately started writing in her notebook, then silently ripped out the page and passed it to the person next to her with a whisper.
Rebecca watched as the note moved quietly around the room till it reached John, who was sitting furthest from the spare seat next to Lucia and the door.
Within Seconds, John's hand was up calling the teacher over. As soon as the teacher's back was turned, Rebecca took a dive, landing gracefully in a forward roll and then army crawled the rest of the way to the table but just as she was sliding into her seat the teacher caught on and turned around, eyes landing on Rebecca.
*********
It was lunch the same day and Rebecca was sitting in detention. She was only fifteen minutes late and she still had to spend the whole of lunch in the detention room, while she was supposed to be at a social justice meeting.
She sat staring at the celling and the question floated to the front of her mind again; where had she heard of St Edwards before?
