It was Tuesday, no, Wednesday at 3 in the morning and Sydney was once again deep into a pile of new comic books that she had bought the previous weekend. In between college and other responsibilities, she hadn't gotten around to reading them, until now.
What always drew her into these stories wasn't the powers or the heroic actions of the heroes, although those are what make the comics what they are, it was the backstory and the upbringing of the heroes and villains. How did they get those powers? Who helped them control it?
By the time she was done reading the last one it was 5:30. Time for her to get ready and go down to Light of Hope, the men's homeless shelter where she volunteers every Wednesday.
She gets dressed, grabs her keys, jumps into her gray Honda Civic and heads to the shelter.
Once she gets there, the cooks are already preparing meals, tables are being set up, clothes are being passed out, everything is normal.
Until a fight breaks out, and it was started by none other than Anthony "Satch" Moreno.
He got that nickname because he carries a satchel on him at all times and will never put it down. His dad gave it to him.
Satch is always stirring up trouble at Light of Hope. The week before, he stole soap from a few people in the shelter. The guy doesn't even shower.
Before anything got too serious the security guards, Tumnus and Dale, stopped the fight and kicked Satch out for the last time.Poor guy. Sydney thought. I wonder where he'll go.
Before she could put more thought to it, it was time to pass out food to everyone. Then a quick thought popped into her noggin.
I'll save a plate and find Satch later. He's usually just at the liquor store down the street.
What a saint that girl.
Once everyone had eaten, and the volunteers picked up after everyone, it was time to find Satch and go to class.
She drove down the street but he was no where too be found. Oh well. She decided to stop looking and head to class.
She was a med student and that was her first day working at the hospital, shadowing the doctors and nurses.
It's not what she really wanted to do. She really wanted to be a screenwriter and produce the most amazing superhero movies of all time. Of course her parents wouldn't allow her, they refused to pay for her schooling if that was the path she took. So she did what her parents wanted her to do, become a doctor.
After her class, she headed over to start her first day at the hospital.
Once she got there she signed in and they assigned her to the emergency room to shadow the doctors there.
Right when she met with one of the surgeons, someone was rushed in and he invited her to watch the operation.
She sat down in the watching area, looked at the doctors and nurses, then to the patient.
She looked confused for a second, then her mind registered who it was.
