Pain... Jim just tripped and grazed both his knees. "You good," yelled Bob as he came over and helped Jim up. "Yeah I'm fine," he replied. Jim looked around the park for Jeff. He had a long gaze at the Sydney harbour bridge. Sneakily Jeff came up behind them and gave them a fright. "About time you got here," mumbled Bob. "Sorry," fired back Jeff in a sarcastic tone. Jim's phone fell out of his pocket and started buzzing with a red screen. "What's up with that?" asked Jeff. " I don't know, it's been doing that all day. He picked his phone up to examine it. It was an early warning system alerting them of a meteorite, with a 95% chance of hitting the earth. There was a little icon in the corner of the screen saying something about a nearby bunker. With a 50/50 chance of them getting there in time, they right away with the bare essentials.
This was there first time away from civilisation, with no sole insight. They chose to take a buggy out to the jagged roads and scorching sun. Because Jeff read a lot they knew about a road that had minimal predators and snakes. Taking this root would take longer but it would give them a chance of actually making it there. Most people were able to get into the city bunker but they were not selected to go. "We'll go till the gas run's out," half yelled Jim." Sounds like a plan'" said, Bob. While saying that the buggy came to a disappointing stop. Jeff handed out the ration's and said: "We'll rest for the next few hours then we should make a move." The others nodded and continued to eat.
It was difficult to sleep that night, with sand blowing everywhere in waves in the freezing lifeless wasteland, the three of them were feeling homesick. It was nice to hear the fire over the howl of the wind that would soon be their bane. Jim tried to cover his sand-covered eyes but it lead to him stinging his eyes. All of them realised that they took the comforts of sleeping inside for granted. It was reassuring that there would be a tomorrow when there wisps of orange and pink clouds just above the rising sun. The buggy was half-buried in the sand when they woke up from the worst night sleep they have ever had. With the last of the rations gone they set off into the rising sun knowing they had a long day ahead of them.
Sweat was like a river coming down Jim's forehead, leading the others through the blinding dust and sand was painful. Because he could barely see his feet on the asphalt was the only thing keeping them going in the right direction. "Blast," yelled Bob. They were out of water, at this rate they were sure to die, not from the meteor but from the heat and dehydration. According to Google maps, they had to pass a gate and then they would be ten minutes away. The only problem was the gate, it was closed and there was no way to get through it. After an unsuccessful search for keys or controls to get through the gate, Jim yelled: " Oi Jeff get over here." Jeff scurred over after playing on his phone wasting valuable power. Lucky for them the gate still and power and Jeff was the techiest guy around. After half an hour of messing with a passworded console, Jeff finally had access to the gate controls. Screech... they gate was getting old and rusty, and made a really loud sound when opening. With ten minutes to go, they had no time to waste, the meteor could land at any moment.
The hill that contained the bunker was in sight and lights were flashing inside along with a blaring alarm, the three of them bolted over in hope of getting inside. All of a sudden a blinding light flashed behind them and they were almost running blind. The doors were closing and the suspense was rasing. Bob tripped, Jim ordered Jeff to keep running and he would go back for Bob. The doors were 10 meters away and Jim was practically dragging Bob. Clang! The doors closed behind them Jim and Bob were lying on the floor gasping of air, they had made it. "You helped me up at the park and I helped you up there, a deed for a deed. They both cracked up laughing.
Generations later people surfaced again, after building a new city from the ashes of the fallen ones, there was news of a Plague, and it was spreading rapidly...
