Sulli, an ex-member of K-pop girl group f(x), announced the release of her new solo album "Goblin," Monday. Fans had mixed reactions to her unexpected change of direction, as Sulli withdrew from the group to focus on her career as an actress.
Sulli will release her new special single "Goblin" on June 29, her agency SM Entertainment announced on Monday. The single release consists of three tracks, "Goblin," "Sailor Moon" and "Dorothy." Sulli participated in writing the lyrics for all three songs.
However Sulli's sudden change of mind to embark on a solo career bewilders fans who have been waiting for f(x) to reunite.
"I thought Sulli went out from the group because she didn't want to sing. I don't understand why she is suddenly coming back as a solo singer," one Twitter user wrote.
Other user said, "I have been waiting for years for f(x) to return, and they are releasing a solo for Sulli? I blame the agency."
Sulli debuted as a member of f(x) in 2009 and left the group in August 2018. At the time she said she wanted to "focus on acting rather than singing." Fans showed some disappointment upon her departure, but supported her new career path.
After Sulli decided to drop out from f(x) and focus on her acting career, the group worked with four members, but only participated in short-term projects. The group's last official album was "4 Walls/ COWBOY" which was released in Japan in 2016.
The other four members parted ways for their own careers ― Luna and Amber releasing solo albums, Crystal as an actress and Victoria working as a celebrity in China.
Meanwhile, Sulli participated in the film "Real," in which Kim Soo-hyun was the male lead. But the film received poor reviews from critics. She also made appearances on online reality show "Jinri Market."
On the day of her solo release, she will hold a fan meeting-concert "Sulli's Special Stage Peaches Go!blin" at SM Town Theater in Samseong-dong, southern Seoul.
She will also appear on JTBC's reality show "The Night of Hate Comments," which will premiere this Friday.
