Cariad's POV
I walked to my work place with my hands shoved into my coat pockets. The bitter autumn air whipped around my ankles, sending shivers upwards through my body.
My docs crunched the fallen leaves that covered the pavement below.
The bare tree branches crashed against one an other, causing the trees to make a cracking sound.
I walked down the street with my head hung low, and my chin buried in the collar of my coat.
How delightful autumn was. I thought as I pushed my way into the small café.
"Good morning, Cariad!" My colleague Joseph shouted as I hung up my coat on the small coat rack behind the food counter.
"Good morning, Joseph," I smiled as I brushed through knotted curls with my fingers.
"You're early today, it's only 7am," Joe laughed, as he set up the tables ready for customers.
I checked the clock hung on the wall, then I checked my wrist watch. My wrist watch was almost half an hour fast.
"Oh, my watch is fast," I sighed before I sat myself down behind the counter. I fiddled with the buttons on my watch and changed the time.
"Well it's no bad thing, I could use a little help," he smiled, gesturing for me to help him set up.
I helped Joe take all the chairs down and set the small tables. By the time we had finished it was already time for my shift working behind the till.
Some customers had already started to come in, most of them only ordering some sort of hot beverage to-go.
I liked this time of day, the café wasn't that busy and the customers were all pretty chilled, like they didn't mind stopping and talking for a little, it was nice.
"So how's life, Cariad?" My best friend Damian smiled as he walked through the door of the small café.
"Fantastic, it really is amazing pouring coffee for six hours straight for minimum wage everyday!" I said sarcastically.
"Har har," he smiled as he prodded my side. "But seriously,"
"Seriously?" I asked raising my eyebrow. "I'm great."
"Well that's good." he smiled before tying up his apron and walking away to take someone's order.
Once I was left alone, I lay my head down on the counter and closed my eyes.
"Ahem," a voice sounded from in front of me.
I look up to find a tanned boy with dark hair and deep brown eyes stood before me.
"Could I get a coffee?" He asked folding his arms over his chest.
"Sure." I said turning towards the coffee machine.
I fumbled with the buttons before I got it to work.
I stood with my back to the boy, waiting for the coffee to finish. Once done I put the lid on and passed it to him.
"Here you go," I smile.
"Thanks, doll," he smirked handing me a £5 note.
"My names Cariad not doll," I said simply, taking the note and handing him his change.
"Well, Cariad," he smirked. "I'll see you round," he turned away, his cardboard coffee cup in one hand and a muddy football in the other.
"Who's that?" I asked prodding Damian in the side who was trying to work the hot chocolate machine.
"I'm not quite sure," he said furrowing his eyebrows "I know that he plays in the local football team, and I think he moved here not to long ago."
"Oh," I looked down at the note in my hand and put it in the register. "Do you know his name?" I asked.
He shook his head. "Nah."
I rested my chin on the palms of my hand and scanned around the small cafe. A few of our usuals were sat around the small space, drinking their usual orders, nothing really seemed out of places.
Damian's hair stuck up at the back slightly: normal.
A strong scent of coffee had already begun to spread through the cafe: normal.
The draft from the broken window up the front battled with our shitty heaters: normal.
A muddy print from a football pressed against the food counter: not so normal.
