Love Earth

Through the ages, it was observed, that a period of fertility and peace was almost always followed by periods of great calamity and upheaval. There was a great flood that drowned the earth. Then volcanoes laid everything to ash, with nothing but soot and smoke and dust covering the green. The meteorites struck next, which led to random destruction and annihilation of so many. And then there was the ice age, where the whole of the earth was blanketed in miles of ice and snow and everything got buried under. Sounds were muffled – the roars and screeches of animals, the waves in the seas were frozen solid, statues for what seemed like an eternity.

And with each of these tragedies, the Zeroans were tempted to interfere, rescue the creatures that they have been studying since the birth of the planet. Reset the clock or at the very least preserve certain specimens that were doomed to die out forever. However, these notions were always shot down by the administration. They firmly believed that their roles were limited to observing and not participating. They said that it was not a controlled lab experiment, but a wildly variable and volatile planet. "In addition to that, we will not last a day on that planet," they had said. "We cannot breathe that air and still hope to live. It will take the passing of another age before we can even hope to put our foot on that land." And that was that. The history of earth remained unchanged by outside forces. For a time.

And so the cycles of creation and destruction continued. Once the climactic and natural elements had calmed down, it would seem that the humans had taken it upon themselves to ensure that there would be no continual peace. With stones and sticks, and later fire, they armed themselves. They were already at war with the elements and the wildlife, it would seem that they would turn on one another as well. There was to be no peace on earth.

This bit of progress flabbergasted the Zeroans. Shaking their heads and muttering disapprovingly, they debated yet again, whether to intervene or not. When they took the matter to the king, he was troubled. "We have never faced a situation such as this, and I am honestly at a loss for advice," he said.
