I sprint through the thick trees until I see her laying on the ground, a net draped over her. Fear dances in her eyes. I immediately cut the ropes away, freeing her from the trap. For a few seconds, she just sits there, still in shock I guess.

Jerome finds us a minute later as Danielle it beginning to snap out of it. She just stands up as if she didn't just almost die. The terror flees from her face as she walked towards us and says, "watchyu lookin at!?!" Her hands on her hips.

The sass is real. Jerome and I look at each other, both surprised by her comment. We both started laughing. It was honestly pretty hilarious seeing a little girl with so much sass.

She was about to say something, but the thought was dismissed."Whatever," she said, "so, what now?"

Honestly, I didn't know. Well, we needed a safe place to stay for the night, because there's no way we were going to be roaming around when we can't see a thing. Also, besides the eggplant, Danielle didn't have a weapon. It was already getting dark, so we needed to find a place to camp quickly. We agreed on staying under a mushroom shaped tree. the leaves draped down at an angle so ut was difficult to see anything near the trunk. It was a little tight, but oh well. That's when we saw someone.

She had blonde hair, a little lighter than Danielle's, and it was wavy. I could tell she didn't have a weapon yet. I nudged Jerome, so he would see her. That's when a flash of recognition crossed his eyes. He stood up and snuck over to her. He wasn't carrying his axe. What the hell was he doing...

He came up behind her and said quietly, "punch punch," as he elbowed her in the shoulder. She turned around, smiling. Then I remembered her. She was from Jerome's district. I saw her talking to him during training. They were clearly good friends. She punched him playfully in the stomach. Danielle and I climbed out from under the tree to introduce ourselves.

Apparently, her name is Ashleigh and she had been friends with Jerome since like, 3rd grade. She seemed a little mental, but still nice enough. I guess if Jerome trusts her then I have no reason not to. She never had the opprotunity to grab a weapon after the games started, but I figure she would still be a good addition to the team.

Ashleigh was invited into the little hut we formed and began to discuss our next move as a group. Obviously we weren't going to last long if we didn't have weapons so our group consensus came to be our next mission of acquiring weapons. Since we were low on defenses, it was agreed that we should work stealthily, in the dark. We are only a small hike away from spawn so I grab our remaining supplies, shoved it into the small bag Ashleigh had, and begin walking.

The sun was beginning to rise across the horizon, splaying the sun beams out in vibrant rays. I take a short second to admire the view because who knows... This sunset may be my last.

Once we reach the cornucopia, I sprint towards the open chests. Jerome and I make small talk as we hunt through the chests, praying to find anything that had been forgotten. To our luck, we find four arrows. No one in the group has a bow but if we get one in the later future, these will come in handy.

There are some packets of dried fruit so we grab those and continue to scan the area around spawn. Almost immediately, I hear some rustling in the bushes so I give a bird call to the others to alert them. Ashleigh kneels down with Danielle as Jerome and I get our weapons out.

I slink towards the outskirts of the cornucopia and see an Asian boy watching the two girls through the bushes. He must not have seen me because his attention is focused mainly towards Jerome.

I creep up behind the boy and just as he turns around, I pierce my machete through his stomach. Blood seeps out of his mouth as I pull the blade from the wound. A cannon goes off and I wave towards everyone so they know I'm okay.

I loot the boy before leaving him and all I find is some more food and a small kitchen knife.

I give the knife to Danielle once I return and she seems thrilled. I don't think she realizes what a terrible weapon it is, then again...

If I had to beat someone to death with an eggplant then I would be pretty thrilled to get any sort of weapon.

After checking the rest of spawn, we gather our supplies and slink back into the trees.

A/N Im so sorry I haven't updated in like forever, but my friends Danielle and Ashleigh (yes the characters from the book *sigh*) are helping me write some of the stuff. If you want details about co owning the account, please keep in mind I knew them before I started writing the story so..... Yeah. But anyways I need to give a shout out to @XDANI123X because she helped me with a lot of this chapter.
