THREE WEEKS LATER...
For some reason what Shayne said in the hospital really stuck with me.
"Well next, I marry you," he had said.
What was I supposed to think?
Was that a proposal?
Are we engaged?
Why don't I have a ring?
Am I over thinking this?
All these questions ate at my brain daily, and for some reason I was too afraid to ask him for answers."Almost ready Y/N?" Shayne asked, poking his head into the nursery.
"Just one more minute Hazel doesn't want to cooperate."
"Ah she's being sassy again?" Shayne chuckled, walking up behind me and placing his hands on my hips.
"Yes, you dress her, she just uses me for food," I groaned letting him take over getting Hazel's dress on her tiny body.
While he did, I walked over to Parker's crib and brought him over to the changing table.
"You're next Mr.Man," I joked, blowing raspberries on his tummy, resulting in some sort of baby gurgling laughter.
"I can't believe we're finally letting the squad meet them," Shayne chuckled, "I bet you 10 bucks that Noah doesn't want to hold them."
"Why wouldn't he?" I laughed.
"You know Noah, he's a child himself."
"True," I agreed, buttoning the last button on Parker's onesie.
By then Shayne had already strapped Hazel into her car seat, so I handed Parker off and took Hazel to the car.
"Y/N! WHERE DID WE PUT THE BINKIES?" Shayne yelled from the house.
"BEDSIDE TABLE SHAYNE."
"IT'S NOT THERE Y/N, YOU KNOW HOW PARKER IS WITH HIS BINKY!"
I laughed at Shayne's panic over such a dad topic before leaving the car to help search for the binkie.
"It's right here you blind old man," I joked, before Shayne grabbed my hand and pulled me into a kiss.
"Thank you, and I'm not an old man," he said.
"Says the man who couldn't find a binky that was clearly in front of him."
"Laugh all you want Y/N but you're gonna marry this old man."
There it was again, him bringing up marriage. What am I supposed to say to that?
As I made my way back to the car, something felt...off. Almost like back in the day with Heather, she'd say something that triggered my gut instincts to scream, but I never knew why until I solved the puzzle.
"Okay little miss, are you ready to go meet your uncles and aunts?" I asked as I opened up the car door.
However, I was met with an empty car seat.
My heart dropped down to my stomach and I started frantically searching the area.
"SHAYNE! SHE'S GONE, HAZEL'S GONE," I screamed.
Shayne sprinted out of the house with Parker in his seat.
When I saw them both I fell to my knees and sobbed harder than I ever had in my entire life.
My daughter is missing.●●●
Shayne searched the entire block for hours after calling the police and the squad.
We had multiple search parties looking for out sweet girl, but there was no sign of her. Absolutely nothing.
I was heartbroken, all I could do was cradle Parker and hold him close.
I could tell that he knew his sister was gone, motherly instinct, and that's what hurt the most.
I felt so guilty that I lost his sister, I could barely look at him, not to mention Shayne.
Hazel was daddy's little girl, and I was the one who lost his precious angel, he would never forgive me if we didn't find her.
At 2am Shayne finally came home, covered in sweat, his eye's red and bloodshot. He had been crying.
"Shayne-" I started to say as he passed me on the couch.
"I'm going to bed, the police, Mari, Lasercorn and Ian are still looking."
He didn't even look at me as he told me that my daughter was still missing, he didn't even take a passing glance.I was alone again, and everything was my fault.
