'Have you seen Billy Reynolds?' That was the question that the flyer that blew into my face bombarded me with. There had been many like this one posted up all over town. It was nearly two years ago when the disappearances first began.
"Omg, did you hear about Naomi Johnson's parents reporting her missing? I could've sworn I saw her yesterday afternoon after last period!", Samantha Miles whispered to me during first period. "Mhmm that's really strange", I replied distractedly.
I was just noticing that Mr. Jacobs was looking a bit more disheveled than usual today. His hair was messy and his skin looked slick with sweat. "H-h-hello class, t-t-today we'll be discussing microorganisms.", he stuttered. This further proved my suspicions that something really weird was going on in this school... and I was going to get to the bottom of it if it was the last thing I did. Little did I know that would turn out to be exactly the case.
At lunch every teacher in the cafeteria looked very nervous as if they were trying to prepare themselves for something huge. Even the lunch ladies were glancing around nervously. I decided to explore the school so, I told my friends that I had to use the restroom and got up from my table near the exit and sprinted through the double doors before anyone could stop me to ask questions.
As I walked silently through the empty halls I heard a low humming sound and followed it to what seemed to be a teacher's lounge. I tried the door and it was unlocked so I slowly creaked open the door and peeked inside. I glanced around the room and saw nothing out of place. But on closer examination I noticed a trap door open in the floor. I carefully walked up to it and peeked inside.
There was a long flight of stairs leading down to what I thought to be a sort of basement but it was too dark to see. I could more clearly hear the humming emanating from down below.
But now something was different; a sort of chanting was accompanying it. I couldn't make out the words but it sounded like many people had joined in. I quietly tiptoed down the stairs.Thankfully, they were stone so, it didn't make much noise.
I stopped well before I reached the bottom and peeked around the corner into a massive room about as big as the cafeteria and gymnasium combined. I couldn't comprehend what I saw.
All of teachers in the school ( besides the ones in the cafeteria) were in a huge circle, kneeling on the ground as if worshipping some kind of deity. I didn't understand though because in the middle of the circle of teachers there was just a kid around my age standing stock still. It was almost as if they were frozen. When I looked closer I realized something and gasped at the horror of it: the boy wasn't standing; he was propped up, and he wasn't frozen with fear; he was... stuffed. Suddenly, every head in the room snapped in my direction. My heart missed a beat and I stood rooted to the spot afraid to move an inch. They stared at me silently for what for what seemed like hours but was probably only seconds. Then, simultaneously their lips turned up into grins and they reached behind their backs and slowly pulled out huge knives. My stomach turned to knots and I raced up the stairs. I heard fast, heavy footsteps chasing me. I didn't slow down until I reached the top and got my upper body through the trap door. I froze at the sight of what was waiting for me on the other side: Mr. Jacobs, sporting the same disturbing grin as all the others. "Please, help me." I said in a last ditch effort to save myself. He didn't say a word as he shoved me backwards. I tumbled down and felt the pain as multiple parts of my body slammed into the hard stone steps on the way down. When I hit the last step I heard a loud crack and suddenly felt the worst pain imaginable rush through my head. Everything went dark.
I awoke to a low humming that sounded very close to me and seemed like it was coming from all angles. I opened my eyes and saw that I was in the middle of a circle of teachers, some of which I recognized. I tried to shout for help; to alert anyone to the fact that I was here but, my mouth wouldn't move and inch. It seemed as if my lips were sewn together. In fact I couldn't move any part of my body except my eyes. Something finally clicked in my head. Somehow that boy wasn't dead, he was kept alive by some otherworldly force to suffer, paralyzed and surrounded by the people who brought this curse upon him. Now I would suffer the same fate forever... and what's worse is that I will never leave school again.Well that ending was kinda silly lol but I really enjoyed writing this story!😁 Thanks so much for reading!!💖 Have a fantastic day!
