Beginnings

When the universe began, it looked out and dreamed. It dreamed of bright and happy and mysterious things, things it couldn't give names to but could see fuzzy outlines of. It wanted to create! Create and design and wonder! But to do that it needed building blocks, forces which could help it bring its visions to fruition. So yin and yang were created: two energies that were complete opposites, yet without one the other could not sustain anything else except that of its own pure energy. The universe was happy with these two energies but knew there had to be a third energy, weaker than the two foundations yet still extremely important. Thus Mother Nature was born. She would watch over everything that the two foundations and the universe built, keeping everything in check and making sure the balance of all things was not disturbed for long.

The universe was satisfied, but knew with each new thing it created, it would create a keeper; a being of pure energy that would prove vital in the creation, upkeep, and eventual destruction of everything. The first was creation, made from all the leftover energy of the first three deities' births. However, creation needed something to keep it in line. An opposing force that signaled its end and new beginning. Destruction was born, and with it, the start of everything.

Next to arrive were time and space. Twin energies that allowed whatever was created to stay and grow, constantly changing and flowing. But the universe saw something off with what it had created so far. These beings did their job, but that was all they did. They did not bring the brightness and warmth that it had envisioned, that it had dreamed of. So it told creation to make a being, an energy that would bring that light it saw and thus, a new deity was made. Now this being was a strange one, as it would not get a name until many trillions of years later, when creatures started forming and creation was well underway. But it did it's job. The universe saw this bright ball of energy and the impact they had on the others and it felt warmth, for the others started to interact with one another, meeting and hanging around each other, not really having much to talk about yet still wanting to be with another. The main examples of this were yin and yang. The two energies would almost always be near the other, either watching the other work or talking about anything that came to mind. They became inseparable - loving each other dearly - and words later came into existence that they believed described their relationship fairly well. Siblings, or friends. Family even.

Creation continued with their job, creating more and more deities to help with the upkeep and protection of the universe: Life and Death; Balance and Extinction; Sky, Sea and Land; Truth and Ideals; Mischief and Protection; Fire, Ice and Lightning; Sun and Moon; and many more. Each knew their jobs well, letting the others do what they needed to, yet sometimes meddling in other's affairs if they felt something wasn't necessary. And they all knew the intricate details of existence, as well as the magic and energy that flows through it all, including their own.

Magic is a fickle thing. I should know. It's everywhere you look...
In the untameable winds and silent air.
In the mountainous body of heated rock that holds many tales.
In the crystal bodies of water that provide life to our home.
In the ancient twisted trees that have lived for centuries and have seen the impossible.
Yet it's invisible to the normal eye; the eyes of people who look, but do not see.

But there are those that do see - that know what the feel of magic running along your skin is like, the prickles of energy it leaves in it's wake that bring out the goosebumps on your arms and legs. The feeling that raises all the hairs on your body like static. They see those that are born with this energy, in sync with this ancient power from an early age, able to harness its abilities to their bodies limits. They see those that - whilst not born with this gift - practice and befriend it, dedicating their lives to understanding and perfecting this phantom feeling that flies through their veins.

These people understand the world and it's laws in ways most others do not, seeing mother nature and her creations in all their glory. What these people cannot see, they hear instead. The whisper of the wind as it gossips with the mountains. The rustle of leaves and the rushing of rivers as spirits glide along. The gentle chime of fae wings and natures voice drifting softly through the undergrowth.

Magic's children vowed to protect this from those that wished them harm. Groups formed around the globe to keep their secrets safe from the outside world, for if the unseeing knew, only chaos would ensue...
