Trick or Treat
Growing up on a farm had its advantages I know now. But when you are a grade schooler and no way to get to town to celebrate Halloween by going trick or treating was a big disappointment to say the least. And no ghosts or goblins came knocking on our door either. It was too far out in the country. So to me and my family Halloween was just another night. The first real time I remember getting to enjoy "fright night" was when I was a freshman at Bethlehem Academy high school, and the Paradise movie theater was showing a horror show downtown Faribault. The prices were discounted so kids could afford it and parents knew where we were. Two of my best friends and I went together. Julie M. and Julie R. I cannot remember the actual name of the movie but I can remember how scared I was sitting on the edge of my seat, covering my eyes and screaming in holy terror when the headless horesman appeared. And dropped a whole bag if popcorn!!!! I said to both Julie's "I want to go!" "I don't like this movie, it is making me sick!" They laughed hysterically. They weren't going to leave. First of all they liked being scared and who wants to go home early on Halloween. We stayed til the end. I realized that night I never ever wanted to see another horror show for the rest of my life. I am what most people would call a scaredy cat. So when I got home my mom asked how the movie was. I told her I was scared and would probably have nightmares. She laughed too!!! Gosh, isn't it interesting that people enjoy seeing other people be scared?
