Christine's POV:

Screams and shouts filled the hallway, the janitors sighing as they watch their recently polished floor turn into a dirty mess. Papers were thrown into the air - probably someone's idea of a joke. They landed everywhere. The place was buzzing with excitement. First day of school, tenth grader, yippee. I groaned, not bothering to silence it. I grabbed my bag and followed a group of girls in front of me. Probably the CAP. In school, we were basically split into groups. There were the jocks, the nerds, the CAP, which stands for Cute, Amazing, Popular. They have a special name, so I guess we all know which group is most worshipped. I was in the nerds. Not complaining, I wasn't a PE person, nor could I ever pass the CAP without a snort or a look of digust, like I'm some last season shoes. The nerds were generally kind, but we were often mistreated, which I resented it for. To prove my point, the CAPs finally noticed me and turned around, smug looks appearing on their faces. "What's the matter, Caroline? Didn't get an A for your last test?" A brunatte spoke, her voice filled with fake sympathy. She was twirled her perfectly curled hair, her lips pursed. "It's Christine, Angelina. I'm surprised you made it to school, I assumed you lost your way." I said through gritted teeth, watching her face turn sooty black. She opened her mouth, as if to say a snappy comeback, but stopped herself. She sent a loser sign at me, and strutted off, her clones after her. I stared after them, wondering how I'd even survive in this school. I entered the office, where there was a long queue for the timetable slips. The bored 11th grader giving out slips looked like she was about to pass out any moment. I scanned the crowd, barely recognising some people. Angelina was among them, rolling her eyes as she stuffed her slip into her Prada bag. I wished she could have sent her huge ego along with it too. I watched as the line slowly cut short, the first class was starting in 10 minutes, and being tardy for my first class wasn't my life goal. I soon found my eyes wandering over a group of boys, no doubt CAP, but to give them some credit, they could be jocks. I recognised Sebastian Roberts, his jet black hair and brilliant hazel eyes stood out from the crowd. Sebastian had hair dark enough to give midnight a run for its money, his dashing looks and his irresistible charm. He stopped talking to his friends, and his gaze focused on me, making my heart leap. I stared back at him, our eyes unblinking. Soon, a cloud of silence grew over the room as they realised what was happening. A CAP guy, staring at a nerd? This wasn't something you see everyday. All eyes were on us. The people in between our paths scrambled to move, like our staring could vaporise them. Even the timetable slip girl turned to see what was going on, looking at me strangely. Was there toilet paper stuck in my shoe? Or a huge booger sticking out my nose? I continued to stare, my eyes flicked to his other features, his slightly dotted freckles, sweat dripping off his forehead. His stare turned into a smirk. I smiled, not even afraid what others would think of me. We broke our gaze, and surprisingly, the mummers grew louder, soon the chaos was restored. I ducked to avoid the paper aeroplane aimed at me, as I noticed Sebastian was long gone from the queue. Probably just my imagination, I thought, as I received my slip. I rushed out of the room as class started a minute ago. It was impossible to get through the crowd - it felt like I was pushing my way through the strong current of the ocean waves. I slipped through the back door of the class, hoping the teacher did not notice me. I scrambled to the only empty seat- next to Sebastian. "These are the seats you would be allocated to for the rest of the term." My teacher announced to the class with a smile. Her lipstick was thick and overdone on her small lips and her face was caked with foundation, her eyelashes curled like a gift ribbon. I almost threw out at the gaudy sight.

I groan inwardly at her words. What have I got myself into? "And, I'll like to address that tardiness would not be let off leniantly." Her steely gaze set on me as I tried to look anywhere but him. Sebastian chuckled. Wait, he, of all people, think this is funny? He got me into trouble in the first place. If he had not spent 2 minutes staring at me, maybe I could be here bright and early, like everyone else! I wanted to shout and scream at him. The lesson droned on and on as I watched Mrs Bones wrote equations all over the board in the adultly cursive kind of handwriting. The screeching of the chalk was the only noise in the room, for Mrs Bones had eyes at the back of her head, and ears that could hear every last whisper the end of the room. Sebastian looked over at me and sent me this goofy cute grin. I wanted to slap him and hate him badly, but I couldn't, and I hated myself for that. I tried to maintain less eye contact on him, but my efforts were useless. The bell, shringed as Mrs Bones started with, "Please do pages one to five of your algeb-" before her voice was drowned in a sea of noises. The screeching of chairs, the scraping noise as people collected their bags, a few "Thank goodness that's over" and "We have to do this everyday?" came from random pockets of groups in the room, and a voice that stood out among the rest. I felt warm breathe behind me, it wasn't familiar, but felt warm and welcoming. Turning around, I saw the boy. Jet black hair, hazel eyes. Sebastian Richards.
