------
Everything happened so suddenly.
Before he knew it, the Overachieving Athlete found himself shoved face-first into the dirt, delirious from the overwhelming jolt of electricity his opponent had subjected him to. A defeated wheeze escaped his throat, his eyes rolling back slightly while he stared into the dust around him.
Along with the twitching pain Lightning felt in his arms and legs, the dark-skinned male felt an added weight smack against his back, one he normally wouldn't have noticed. He could barely make out the numerous pairs of shoes of the people who stood in front of him, nor the words they were chanting at first, but when he did, his heart dropped to his stomach.
"One!"
"Two!"
"Three!"
It was over, he had lost the final.
"He's done it! Cameron has done it! Cameron wins Total Drama Revenge of the Island, and the million-dollar prize!"
Lightning managed to hear the entire speech, despite the harsh pounding in his head. He lifted his eyes up slightly, catching a glimpse of the eliminated contestants hoisting the wide-eyed nerd into the air in glee. No one even bothered to acknowledge him.
The athlete pushed his hands into the dirt, trying to force himself back to his feet, and for the first time in a long time, his strength failed him. His elbows buckled and shook for a moment before collapsing, sending the male's face back into the ground. Everything hurt, his ears started to ring like crazy, and, to put it bluntly, he began to panic.
His loss was finally sinking in, and the consequences of said loss slapping him the face like a wet fish.
Lightning kept an eager eye on his opponent while he had his conversation with his mom. Since Chris mentioned that they would get to speak to their family for a bit, that meant he would probably get to see his dad. It had been a while since he saw him, especially since he had made it to the last leg of the competition, and the athlete couldn't wait.
Finally, when Cameron's mom had finished and the footage cut off, he took the nerd by the shoulder and confidently shoved him aside, "Don't worry, Cammy-bear, you can floss after I win, if you've got any teeth left!" He let out a laugh and looked back to the screen, where he was greeted by the back of his father's head, talking into a bunch of microphones, "It's Pops!"
"My boy's gonna win the whole million-dollar sha-bang!"
"I'll do you proud, Pops!" he replied with a grin.
"He's the best son an athlete could hope for!"
"You know it, Pops, over here!" he yelled, waving his arms around while watching him speak.
"What if Lightning doesn't win?" A reporter asked, to which Lightning scoffed at, at first.
"Impossible," his dad retorted, raising his hand in the air, "I'll bet my championship rings on it!"
As soon as those words hit Lightning's ears, his smile snapped into a look of pure shock, "What? You're kidding, right Pops?"
Unfortunately, he wasn't, and continued to tell the press, "He better win, because, without these rings, I'm nothing, NOTHING!" And with that, the feed cut to static, and Lightning's worst fear had been confirmed.
"He was kidding . . ." the athlete anxiously reassured himself, "He had to be!"
As if the rest were a blur, the dark-skinned male had found himself inside the confessional. "If I lose, Pops is gonna lose his rings!" he recapped, his voice shaking in concern, "But, I can't lose, I won't lose, I don't know HOW to lose, and one way or another, I am gonna make Pops proud!"
