"Where are your kids?" Sam asked.
Marcy turned on the light in the guest room he'd be staying in. "At lessons."
"Lessons?" He marveled over the room that looked like a deluxe hotel room.
"Yup." She pushed him inside when all he did was stand there. "There's towels and a robe, soap and shampoo. Put your stuff down so I can show you where you can shower."
He set his things at the bottom of the bed.
She took his hand (he lit up at that) and led him out and to a room three doors down. She turned on the light to show off a beautifully decorated bathroom. "There's more than one but this is the closest to your room."
He peeked inside. It looked like an oasis. "Beautiful."
"Now we should go upstairs so you can meet the animals."
He thought that was her band. "Are they cool?"
"Not with men."
He was very confused.
She saw. "I mean actual animals."
"Oh! How many you got?"
"It's a bunch but mainly dogs."
"I love dogs. Connery." He was talking about his terrier named after Sean Connery.
"Yeah... I have real dogs."
He felt hurt at that. He loved Connery. "He is a real dog!"
"He's your foot with fur."
He was offended but could tell she didn't care because she turned the light off and walked out to go upstairs. So he followed her.
She went upstairs to the second floor and opened the door to the master suite. Animals raced over to her, jumping around but not on her. "Hi!"
He was surprised at her happy, sweet voice. She must really love animals.
Those animals turned to him and it got ugly. A large white and grey dog pounced on him, snarling.
"Sully!" Marcy snapped. "Off!"
A brown great Dane sniffed him.
A large Dalmatian snapped his jaw at him.
"Stop that, Scotch!" Marcy pulled at the dogs.
A white cat scratched his face.
"Salem!" She picked the cat up and he purred.
Sam was a little terrified. An iguana whipped its tail at his throat but Marcy picked him up just in time.
"No, Snowball!" She started pushing them out of her room. "Get out of here! Until you're more well behaved, you're banned!"
The animals slunk out and Sam could swear they were pouting.
The only one who refused to move was a big black dog that resembled a bear. She whined slightly at him. "You can stay, Secret. Go take a nap in the closet."
The dog got to his feet and slowly walked to the closet.
"Is he okay?" Sam asked.
Marcy could cry. "He's really old. Fifteen."
Sam's eyes widened. "Fifteen?!"
"Yeah." She worried about her first dog.
"I'm sorry."
"Thank you." She shut the door on her other animals and went to the bathroom to wash her hands.
He followed and was dumbstruck at how gorgeous it was. It made the bathroom in the basement look like a hovel. "This is beautiful. Who decorated?"
