the first few steps eden took out the metaphorical door to narnia were not breathtaking. they weren't exhilarating, they didn't bring about a rush of adrenaline, they weren't life-changing.

they were utterly underwhelming. there were no luscious fields of grass or grandiose cities, instead a shabby alleyway with looming brick walls covered in faded graffiti. the sunlight was merely a trick of eden's eyes, a few rays barely finding their way past grey clouds. right, it was also raining.

eden crossed her arms in an attempt to cover herself, and shuffled her way quickly out of the alley into an empty street. she took in the view slowly. there was a winding road that went down a hill surrounded by countless buildings, all with their own flashy signs and benches lining the sidewalks along them.

not a single person was in sight, though the silence of the street was drowned out by the soft, collective pattering of rainfall. okay, so maybe it was kind of breathtaking. eden's arms dropped to her sides, and she lifted her gaze to the cloudy sky. her eyes shut tight and water splashed onto her face.

eden stood there for what felt like forever, just taking in the fresh air and release of being outside. sure, they went outside a few times, but it was never like this. she had never felt so free.

a sudden shiver that coursed up her spine brought her back to reality. she shook out her short, blonde hair, and turned one last time to face the alleyway. what was she supposed to do? wave goodbye? say her thanks?

thanks for what?

eden faced her back to it and made her way down the streets. it was peaceful, and she relished the new sound of rain pattering on every surface around her. she focused on it instead of the fact that she had no clue where the hell she was headed.

as she observed the area around her, eden caught sight of a flashy shop in the nook of a building. a neon sign was held up above it, with vertical letters reading 'DOWNTOWN PUB', which she had absolutely no clue what it meant. but it seemed important, with even more flashy signs in the window, so she supposed she could try to talk to someone in there.

the door jingled — or, something above it did — when she pushed it open. in hindsight, eden probably shouldn't have gone into a public place in a soaked t-shirt with orange jogging pants, but she went with it nonetheless. only a few people were in the 'pub,' including a large, but sweet looking man behind a bar, a pair of fanciful women, and three guys having a beer.

she couldn't have been more out of place. they all turned to stare at her and her soaked, scab-ridden demeanour, each of their conversations being placed to a halt to take an awkward look at the adolescent mess. to say their looks were ones of disgust and confusion would be an understatement.

"hi," she waved with a cheeky smile.
