Jaxon:

I have always known that I was destined to be different from the rest of my pack. I just didn't realise how or why. It is my eighteenth birthday, also known as the day we meet our Mate. I, like most people, have been waiting for this moment for our whole life. Our Mate is the one person we should always be able to depend on, love and cherish for the rest of our lives.

Even though we are supernatural and do have Mates, this does not mean we can't love others, cheat on each other and not live without them. If our Mate dies, it takes a major toll on us, but for those strong minded - we recover. This is the same if they were to cheat on or reject us. Cheating is outlawed and results in banishment from the Pack.

Today is the day I find out why I have felt like an outcast my whole life, and should also be the day that I find my Mate. I have always had a feeling that she would have black hair, green eyes with sun kissed skin and be a couple of inches shorter than me - what I got is not that.

In my Pack it is tradition that there is a Ball held every full moon, in celebration of the Goddess and those who have yet to be mated - or in my case, turner eighteen the day of the full moon - help find their Mates. So as tradition has it, the Ball is going to be held tonight. I have heard some rumours that their will a neighbouring Pack joining tonight's celebration, but the reason for them joining us is still up in the air. There have been many different ideas thrown about by the gossip mill in the school - however none seem plausible.

It is an hour before the celebration starts and I am just getting out of the shower. My tux is laid out on my single bed ready for me to put on. It is the same tux that I have been wearing for the past three years. My family did not have the money to purchase a new tux each month - or earlier than every five years. We did not hold a title in the Pack - however we weren't as low in the Pack as the Omegas. My Mum was a school teacher at our local primary school, and my Dad is a Master Chief in the Navy. He was currently deployed and isn't due back for another three months.

I put my tux on and head back into the bathroom to style my hair. I figured I should put a little bit of effort into my look as I could be meeting my Mate tonight. I look in the mirror at myself once I have done my hair. I see what I see everyday. My dull hazel eyes, the mole on my chin and my unstyled-styled, dirty blonde hair.

If my Mate is from the neighbouring Pack - depending on her rank - I will also be moving away from home

If my Mate is from the neighbouring Pack - depending on her rank - I will also be moving away from home. This is standard practice. The lower ranked partner of the Mate-ship needs to move to the higher ranks Pack if they are different. If they are of the same ranking they decide within themselves where they would like to live.

The Pack that is joining our Ball tonight is Alphaed by triplets. They are three brothers that turned eighteen at the beginning of last year, taking over their Pack. They have yet to find their Luna's, so they must be doing the rounds of the surrounding Pack's to try and find them. Making tonight our Pack's night. They are bringing all eligible Pack members allowing for it to be mutually beneficial for our Pack and theirs.
