There is something about fairy tales.
They speak to the hearts of little girls, girls who dream of magic and splendor and eternal love.
They give hope and faith, and the will to take on the adventure, searching for that ever elusive "True Love's Kiss." They provide the will to rise above all heartbreak, to soldier on no matter how difficult it might seem, no matter how hopeless.
But what happens when you lose faith in the fairy tale? What of those who have never believed it? Those who expect nothing so underserved from life? What happens when it suddenly appears before them? Do they grasp it in both hands, cling on for dear life?
Or do they just turn away?
If the fairytale came to you in an unexpected form, would you turn away?
I didn't.
And the moment I grasped it, doors were opened to me, magical doors that, once through them, I could never go back.
But my story was to be a result of what happened after my sixteenth birthday.

He'd been driving too fast on that empty road, they said. It had been nearly midnight, yet he hadn't been headed for his home, or even mine. The tarmac had been slick from the rain, so the fact that he'd been speeding said a lot about his mood.
Furious.
Some said he'd impulsively committed suicide, others that his anger blinded him and he took it out on his car. Still others believed that he'd seen something on that dark stretch of road that shocked him, and he lost control of his car. Whatever the reason, when his car was found with a tree trunk embedded in the front, it was all blamed on him. But I knew better.
I knew that, for him to have been on that slippery road at all that night - probably doing over a hundred - was my fault.
Connor Jacks was dead because of me.
