one year later"Morning prayer is in the auditorium at 8am sharp, after that is breakfast and at 9am starts the first class. If the first class gets cancelled you will still have to attend the prayer. Lunch is at 1pm and dinner at 6pm. You have to attend all three meals. After the trial period you can apply for the lunch permit which allows you to eat outside of school. There's a pizzeria nearby which is very popular among our students. Bedtime is at 9:30pm which means not leaving your room and being quiet so that you can't be heard in the hallway. If you have any more questions you can either ask your roommate or me. You know where my office is, right? Okay, this is the room. I hope you will have a good start at our school." The woman finally takes a breath and grabs Stan's hand, shaking it while smiling nicely. Then without another word she turns around and walks away in her blazer, skirt and perfectly polished shoes. Stan lets out a sigh. He still can't quite believe that he is here now and no longer at the public school of his hometown. He isn't sure if he should be happy or annoyed. On one hand he is glad about the change. The thought of going back makes him feel sick in his stomach. So much shit has happened in Denver. While staring at the light brown wood of the door, images flash in Stan's mind. His girlfriend screaming at him, because he cheated on her. With a guy. Her spreading the story in his school. The bullying. From a popular quarterback to the number one loser in twenty seconds. Yes, he cheated and he shouldn't have. But Stan has told her, that he'd never meet that guy again. Yeah, as if that would have made anything better. A single tear rolls up his eye and falls down his cheek when once again he is confronted with the same question: Is he gay? And even if..does it matter? Well yes. Now it does since his parents took him out of school because of the bullying and put him into an all-boys strictly christian boarding school two hours away from home which is known for praying the gay out of their students. Stan doesn't think that this is the reason he landed here though, his parents probably don't care. It's more likely that they hope all the well educated young men here wouldn't do the same things to him as the cunts back in Denver.
On the other hand he is a bit scared that he won't fit in. Stan wouldn't call himself a rebel or a badboy or any of that crap but he also is definitely not the perfect christian son. Does god even exist? He isn't sure anymore.
Stan scratches his head and feels a bit of embarrassment when he realizes that he must have been standing here for at least three minutes just staring at the door. Hopefully nobody has seen him... The black haired boy raises his arm and knocks against the wood. How will his roommate be? Hopefully not some asshole who can somehow smell his attraction for both genders and make his life a hell. Great. He is overthinking again. It's fine. He doesn't even have to make friends with the person. He will be here for only one year before college starts. Everything is under control. The door swings open so suddenly that Stan flinches a little. "Look who it is, Stan the man! Welcome to our den." "Kenny? I didn't know we shared a room, why didn't you tell me?" Kenny had changed to this school last year when his problems at home had gotten too big for him and he had to move to relatives. Stan had missed him so much so he can't help but to pull him into a tight hug. "Woah, okay. Okay. Well, I wanted it to be a surprise. Isn't this awesome?" Stan lifts up his suitcase and steps into the room. He takes a few seconds to look around. It's actually not that bad. Two single beds on either side of the room, a small table with three chairs in the middle, big windows and two closets on the opposite wall. Next to the right bed, which is obviously Stan's since it's empty, is a door which he assumes is the way to the bathroom, which they will be sharing with two other guys, as far as he knows. "So has someone showed you the school yet? What is your first impression?" Kenny leans against the table and watches Stan throw his backpack onto the empty bed and put the suitcase next to the closet. "Not really. I went to the office of Mrs...?" "Wynter." "Yeah right. And she walked me directly to this room." Stan opens his backpack and sees that a note from his mom is laying on top of all of his stuff. His face heats up and he closes the backpack quickly. After attending dinner nothing else really happened. Stan was hoping his room mate would show him the school but Kenny apparently already forgot about his own offer. Instead he took a long shower, so long that Stan started to wonder what he was doing in there, and then left to look for someone called Craig, who Stan hasn't met yet. He looks at his phone. It's barely 8pm but for some reason he feels extremely tired. Kenny has been gone for half an hour and he gets the feeling that he won't be coming back anytime soon. Stan checks his social media and types his mom a quick text to let her know that he is still alive. He also chats with some friends, people from his old football team, because they want to know everything that has happened today. After a quick shower and brushing his teeth he decides to go to bed. 8:47pm. Wow. While closing the curtains he takes the opportunity to examine the view from their windows. The room is in one of the buildings that are in the far back of the school ground. He looks down at a small forest with a picnic area close to the building. A couple hundred meters in the distance the road shimmers through the trees and somewhere in between is a basketball field, if his eyes are not betraying him. It feels like Stan is somewhere in nowhere, especially compared to Denver, but he appreciates how quiet it is. Back in bed Stan pulls the sheet up to his chest and it doesn't take long until he falls asleep.
Way too early, only a few hours later, a loud knock on the door wakes him up. And instead of asking for permission it gets opened and a guy steps into the room turning on the light switch at the same time. Stan realizes that he forgot to lock the door. Living on edge, eh? "Oh sorry, didn't mean to wake you up. Where is Kenny?" Stan takes a few seconds to examine the guy. He is about the same height as him with also black hair and broad shoulders. His eyes seem to be blue and he is wearing black sweatpants and a grey hoodie. He also smells strongly of cigarettes and after shave, the scent fills up the room in only a few seconds. "He left to look for uh Craig a while ago." "Oh. Great. I'm Craig." He can feel his blood rush into his cheeks, god how embarrassing. Stan also feels a bit uncomfortable sitting shirtless and with tired eyes in front of a complete stranger who doen't bother leaving. "Why are you asking...?" "Oh I just wanted to return this usb stick." He pulls the small silver device out of one of the pockets of his hoodie and lays it onto the table. "Tell him I said thanks. By the way, are you new here?" "Yeah. I'm Stan." Craig just nods. The situation gets more and more awkward until the guy breaks the silence. "I'll chill outside for a bit. Wanna join?" Stan feels really tempted to say yes just because he is desperate to find new friends quickly and Craig seems interesting but his eyelids are weighing like steel. "Sorry but I'm really tired." Craig nods shortly. "Kay. Bye." He turns off the light again and leaves the room without saying another word. Okay. That was something.
