I woke up with Hermionie standing over me. "Alison!" she yelled, "Why are you still sleeping? In your clothing!" I sat up, bleary-eyed and grumbled."What time is it?"
She clapped her hands. "Time. For. You. To. Get. Up." By this time i was siriously pissed off at her. It was saturday, and I was so tired I didn't even remember what I did last night. I had a distinct memory of popping into Hogsmead though. Maybe for a party or something?
"Do you not remeber what we're doing right now?" Hermionie half hissed, half whispered. She must have seen the confused expression on my face because she leaned in and whispered "The mission?"
Suddenly I shot upright and collided my skull with Hermionie's. "Ow!" we both said. I put my hand on top of my forehead and felt the sensetive part where we hit. If this were a normal day, I would've overreacted, but today was an inportant day.
Today was the day we would stop me from dying (again).
I slipped on a pair of army green jeans and a black t-shirt, and grabbed my cloak and my wand as we stepped out the door. I sprinted up to Dumbledore's office, Hermionie trailing behind me. There was no time to waste. I burst into his office, panting. He was standing in the middle of his enormous office, looking serene.
When he met my eyes, he smiled. "I'm glad you two are here. Now we musn't waste any more time. Hermionie, the time turner please." Hermionie unclipped the turner that hung around her neck and handed it to Dumbledore.
He turned to me the right before spinning the device. "Now Alison" he said. "There is a great chance of failure going into this mission. Are you sure you want to proceed?"
Well, wasn't that the million dollar question? Of course I didn't want to be here. I wish Ron hadn't been so blody stupid and pushed his trunk down the staircase while being his typical lazy self. And more than ever, I wished Vondemort wouldn't have jinxed my hat during my first year, and that I was a true Gryffindor.
But because none of that was true, I was posotive I needed to proceed. "Yes" I said to Dumbledore, my stomach feeling queasy. He nodded and motioned for us to hold hands. I held onto Hermionie tight, scared of what time travel would feel like.
Dumbledore started to twist the time tuner. Slowly the room started to spin. Suprisingly, going back almost two months didn't take long. Only about fifteen minutes had gone by when we stopped spinning, but it didn't seem like anything. I was transfixed with how many people can into and out of Dumbledore's office everyday. But the scariest thing was that he spent a lot of time sitting by his desk, alone.
Hermione let go of my hand and reviewed the plan. "Ok. Alison. You are going to go down to the bottom of the stairs and ambush the Draco that watched you die the first time, and then distract the one coming from the future until he catches Dumbledore. Dumbledore, you'll be waiting upstairs for Ron to come. When you see the trunk hit Alison, dive after and cast the spells that slow her fall. I will make sure that if one of you fails, I will take your place. We can't actually change what happens with Alison the first time, but we can make sure she doesn't die. Everyone clear?"
I nodded and so did Dumbledore. Honestly, it was a lot to handle. I grabbed my cloak and took off to the bottom of the stairs, setting my trap for Malfoy. On the way down, I heard a noise and flung myself into the shadows. I turned around to make sure that y cape was concealing me perfectly, and that's when I saw her.
Well, me to be exact.
I looked so much different thank I felt now. My hair was still purple, and I looked lighter. Happier. I hadn't died yet, I was still planning my perfect year, and I was still on bad terms with Draco. As soon as my former self passed, I continued to lurk in the shadows, making sure I was not seen.
Once I reached the bottom floor, I set my trap. When Draco came, I would pull him into the corner and shove a small cookie into his mouth filled with instant sleeping potion. Then I would run ahead and distract the other Draco until my previous self was 20 feet from the ground. After Draco caught me, Dumbledore would remove the memory of my present self ever interacting with him. Then we had a ten second period to spin back into the future before Draco #1 woke up and Draco #2 went back to his future. It was pretty complex, but having repeated it to myself over and over again, I knew it front to back. It was go time.
I waited for an hour, hiding in the shadows. This plan had to work.
My heart suddenly stopped. The note! How could I have forgotten? I thought back to the note that Blimps had given me the day before I went onto the stairs. I had initially forgotten about it, but how would that person have known about my incident? Could it have been me from the future? I realized that without the note my former self would have never even gone onto the stairs. Personally, I like to use the corridors or avoid the stairs as long as I can. But now, I needed to give my former self the note. I knew without it, our entire plan would be ruined.
Making sure my trap was set for Draco #1, I raced down corridor after corridor. Finally, I was in front of the potions room. Ducking inside I grabbed an extra long cloak Snape keeps lying around incase anyone messes up the 7th Year Declothing spell (trust me, it happens). I found a pen lying on the ground and a peice of black paper and scribbled my note down. Knowing I didn't have much time left, I ran up to the Gryffindor corridor.
I turned the corner and almot ran straight into the real Hermionie. "Sorry" I whispered. She turned around and gasped. "Alison! What the hell are you doing up here?" I explained to her what I had realized downstaris, and her eyes seemed to widen. "Ok" she said. "But make sure nobody else sees you."
I ran up to the owl tower and grabbed Blimps. Hurrying, I spun the time turner that Hermionie had given me when I told her what I was doing. Slowly, I time turned back to Yesterday.
When I was sure a full day had passed, I let Blimps go and watched him fly off. Quickly, I went back to the future. I was seriously getting tired of all this time traveling stuff.
Not even looking back, I ran as fast as I could downstairs to meet Draco.
I finally collapsed at the bottom of the stairs, panting heavily. I could almost feel the food I had yesterday leave my body in little sweat pellets. Even thought I was utterly exhausted, I knew I had to complete my mission. Slinking back, I waited for my target to approach.
