JULY 3rd, 2020. Every year since 2018 that's been their day. The stranger things cast annual sleepover. Ever since they all worked on season 3, it had all brought them closer than they could've imagined; and it was finally time to reunite.
FINN was a naturally nervous person, it was in his nature, but he loved the stranger things cast more than anything, they were his family; he was comfortable around them. So why was he nervous now? Sure, it's been a year since with his best friend and a year since he had an unexplainable feeling around her; but that's all it was, just a feeling.
FINN wasn't good at feeling. He wasn't good at relationships and friendships, he had the tendency to push the people he cared about the most away without even knowing it. His friends had just accepted that and stayed out of his way; but not Millie.
MILLIE was persistent. She tried and tried and tried to get Finn to truly open up and stop pushing her away. The minute Finn stopped texting the groupchat, she was knocking at his door. She worried about him in a way no one had. And in some form of way, you could say she loved him.
FINN grabbed his backpack and threw in his necessities, toothbrush, pyjamas, phone charger, camera. Camera? Finn shook his head in amusement. Millie loved Finn took pictures of her, and he loved taking pictures of her. Capturing her beauty and framing it in his room so he could see her everyday.
FINNS heart was beating out of his chest as he entered the car. Nick was driving him, as he had failed his permit test three times now. Finn couldn't keep his emotions hidden and Nick soon noticed.
"Hey, Finn, you okay? Your face is super red."
FINN, surprised looked up at Nick in shock denying every bit of evidence he presented to him about his emotions.
"No, it's really hot in here, don't you think?" He nervously laughed.
FINN quickly changed the subject not wanting to talk about the reason his heart was beating and his face was flushing up, but he knew the exact reason why his emotions were running wild.
Millie.
BEFORE he could finish his thoughts, Nick brought him out of his daze announcing they had arrived at Millie's house. It was always at Millie's house, and the fact that it was at Millie's house didn't help Finn from feeling any less nervous.
HE thanked Nick for driving him and jumped out of the car eager to see the cast after all the time they've been apart. He ran up to the door and rang the doorbell only to be met with the girl he couldn't stop thinking about for nights on end.
"Hey, Finn."
MILLIE looked beautiful, she took his breath away like always; but something had changed. He had noticed how her hair was a little lighter, how she had a few more freckles, how her skin was tanner than usual. The small things, that's what he saw, and that's what he loved. He really did love her.
"Hey, Mills. I like your hair."
SHE blushed. Finn had been the only one who noticed she had changed at all, although it wasn't much, it meant a lot to her. The small things were big things to her.
IT was strange. If Noah had said it she would thank him. She wouldn't feel the butterflies and the heat rising up to her cheeks. Noah was a friend, so was Finn... right?
MILLIE shook those thoughts from her head and invited Finn inside. With every step he took, she imagined things she shouldn't be imagining for just friends. She noticed Finn's long toned arms and imagined them wrapped around her waist, and his plump lips kissing hers, and...
"You okay Millie?"
FINN had noticed the way Millie was looking at him. Had he done something wrong? She was looking at him.. dreamily? Was that the word? He lightly laughed and shook his head. Dreamily.
YOU idiot. He thought to himself. Millie Bobby Brown, feelings for Finn Wolfhard. People had always called Finn funny, now he was starting to believe it.
MILLIE felt heat rising to her cheeks and her heart thump in her chest as soon as Finn walked in the door, but after hearing him say that, she thought she might have a heart attack.
"Fine! Totally. Yeah, good."
MILLIE was a great actress, so good she was emmy nominated, but around Finn all that talent disappears and she's left to just her vulnerable self. Finn had that effect on her. She couldn't pretend to be in love with him.
Love.
Love was truly a funny thing. A thing Millie had stopped believing in a long time ago. A time where broken hearts only seemed to be hers. But maybe, just maybe this boy could make her believe in it again.
A text rang out in the empty hallway echoing, breaking the tension created by Finn and Millie.
They checked.
STRANGER TINGZ GROUPCHAT
"Hey, guys! We won't be able to make it. Sorry."
MILLIE was seething. She knew they did this on purpose. They had threatened her with it.
We're giving you a week, Mills, if you confess by then, looks like you and Finnie will be all alone at the sleepover.
She didn't think they'd actually do it. They joke about it all the time. She couldn't believe this had happened.
"So, I guess it's just you and me now," a raspy voice had rung out.
You and me.
FINN hadn't thought those words had meaning until he had said them out loud.
FINN had been waiting for it to just be them. To get her alone. To tell her he loved her.
And that's what he was going to do.
He checked the clock.
10:59.
He pulled Millie to her room, knowing her house better than she might have known her own.
"Finn?"
FINN took a deep breath in. He checked the clock.
"It's 11pm, you know what that means, right?"
She stared at him blankly.
"No...? Finn are you alri-"
Knowing the rest of the question, he ignored it and cut her off.
"It's confession time."
MILLIE stood there frozen.
You have a week to confess to him.
It had been a week.
She felt a soft hand on her cheek, warming her face more than her own blush did.
"I love you, Millie Bobby Brown."
MILLIE smiled, forgetting every logical thought going through her head.
"I love you too, Finn Wolfhard."
And that boy did just that.
He made Millie Bobby Brown believe in love again.
