"Argh, I'll kill you!" a high school boy roared, raising his hands in an imitation of claws as he chased an adorably irritating little girl to the stairs of a small house, letting her stay a bit ahead of him. "Rarg, I'm a monster! Fear me! Give me candy!"

The little girl's blonde pigtails bobbed with her giggles as she scampered downstairs. "No, Onii-san, Onii-san! Eeeek! Onii-san, no, bad Onii-san, very bad Onii-san!" She dodged the small pieces of wadded-up tape tossed at her by her brother.

"Candy!" he snarled playfully from the top of the steps, stomping his feet and casting aside the roll of tape. "Give me your candy, little Koko-chan! Your Onii-san- I mean, the monster, demands Koko's candy!"

"Nooo, not my candy!" she shrieked, clutching a small plastic baggie to her chest and trying not to laugh. "Onii-saaaaaaan! Buy your own!"

"Never-" The teen was cut off mid-word. His eyes rolled up in his head and he toppled down the stairs just after Koko rounded the corner adjacent to them, out of immediate view. Thuds and painful-sounding bangs accompanied his fall, and he landed sprawled-out at the bottom of the staircase, unconscious.

Koko poked her head back around the corner. "Onii-san?" She giggled nervously. Her brother had pulled this kind of stunt before, but he wasn't twitching dramatically like last time and his tongue wasn't poking out of his mouth in a playful imitation of death. He was just laying there, not even making a sound.

"Onii-san?" Koko asked again, not giggling anymore. "Are- are you okay? Onii-san?" Her voice was becoming fearful. "Onii-san!" She stumbled to his side, bumping into the corner and losing her balance in the process, and she fell to her knees beside his head. "Onii-san, it isn't funny anymore! Get up! Onii-san!"

The little girl, trembling, pulled up one of his eyelids. His eyes were completely rolled up into his head, and that was when she noticed the red liquid slowly puddling under his orange hair, seeping into the legs of her pajamas.

The coveted bag of candy dropped to the floor, emptying its contents into the blood.

She screamed.
