Marcy yawned as she came down the steps. It was Friday and Sam's family was getting in so they could attend the baby shower the next day.
Speaking of preparing for the babies, she hadn't designed the nursery yet. As she went to the kitchen to do her sunrise meditation, she thought about asking her daughters to help. They were probably feeling a little left out since everything was about the babies lately.
She also made a mental note to spend time with the boys, too. Mally was getting aggressive and twitchy. He got it from his father...
She went to sit in lotus position on the ground outside. It was finally getting warm enough to wear lighter articles of clothing so that meant she could be outside again.
She twisted and turned to loosen up then relaxed to meditate.
Half an hour later, she opened her eyes and went back inside. Manny was at the stove. "Are you hungry?"
"Pancakes please." She went to pour herself a glass of soy milk and stirred in homemade peach syrup.
He stared at her. "Is something wrong with him?"
She frowned in confusion.
"Sam. Ever since you've gotten pregnant by him, you've been so different."
"Bad different?"
He thought about it. "No."
She thought it over herself. "Then what's the problem?"
"How are the children taking the new you?"
"It's not a new me. People don't change. It's just hormones. I'll be back to scowling and hating to eat as soon as I drop these kids."
He gave her a worried look.
"Relax, Manny. I might be having his kids but I'm not his."

"What's going on, Grandson?" Russell sat next to Mally, who was biting on his thumb (a habit he picked up from his mother).
Mally shook his head. "I'm fine, Gramps."
Russell looked at him shrewdly. "Is it him? Samuel?"
Mally looked up.
"You hate him, don't you?"
Mally frowned. "Gram says you're not supposed to hate anybody."
"Which one of them said that?"
"Gram Jeanette."
Russell made a long suffering noise as he rolled his eyes. "Your Gram often forgets who her parents are."
Mally smiled briefly.
"Hate-" Russell stopped. He was going to tell his grandson something wholly toxic but his therapist (and wife) would not approve. "Hate eats you up inside. You think it's simple but it takes over your whole life. When you unleash it, it doesn't just burn your enemy, it burns you, too. Are you ready for that?"
Mally nodded.
"Then do what you have to do."
Mally was glad someone understood.
"But don't ruin your mother's baby shower. She'll kill all of us."
Mally smiled his first genuine smile in two months. "Mommy's no joke."
"No, she is not."
Mally laughed.
