Take Me Back (a niam one shot)

Liam POV:

It’s been ten years....wow, I remember it like it was yesterday. His face looking at mine, his warm touch and even his big appetite. Then it all vanished in a blink of an eye, Just like that. He took his own life, and why? I’ll never know....

It hit us all hard, but me the most. He was best friend, at least as far as he knew. I felt more, but I never told him, or anyone for that matter. The boys still don’t know. I still can’t believe he’s gone. He was always so cheerful. None of us saw it coming. Oh god, here come the tears, even after all this time. I have always loved Niall Horan, and I always will.

After his death, we took a hiatus for five years to see if we could still make it work. But during that period, we all lost touch. Niall was the glue that held us together, granted we got along and everything just fine, but Niall brought us all together. It just got weird after that, it was never the same, so the band broke up. Now we’re all here for the reunion, which I only agreed to because that’s what Niall would've wanted me to do.

I have to go one stage, and sing, I don’t think I can.

“Hey Liam, it’s nice to see you after all these years. You know you have to sing right?” I heard Zayn say from behind. I turned around to see tears in his eyes.

“Yeah, I know, but it has been a while, but I don’t know if I can do it.”

“I know he was your best friend...do you want me to go on instead?”

“No, I can do this, for Niall.” I said through my tears.

“Well, we’re here for you,” Louis and Harry said, “and we will be on stage the whole time, if you want us there with you.” Zayn added.

“Okay, lets go.”

As we walked to the stage, I could feel my heartbeat faster than ever before. In a way, I missed the screaming fans, and all the twitter mentions. But it wasn’t the same without Niall. We went out on stage and Harry was the first to speak.

“Thank you all for coming, it’s been ten years since that horrible day....”

As he was speaking all I could think about was how much I wanted to tell him, I was gonna tell him that night.

~Flashback~

“Niall I’m home! I brought food!” I yelled, but no response. Food always got his attention.

I went up to his room, and I just saw him lying there. I thought he was asleep, so I just left him there. But when dinner time came around he still wasn’t awake. I went up to his room. This time I noticed that a bottle of pills and alcohol sitting on the night table.

“Oh god, please don’t be dead!” I ran up to him, I started shaking him yelling his name.

“Niall! Niall! Please wake up!” I checked his pulse, through my tears, and there was nothing. Not even something to question. He was so cold. I fell to knees, not even crying anymore, just sitting there on my knees silence with a dead body. I didn’t even call anybody, not the boys, not 911, nobody, I just sat there and did nothing.

The next day, the boys knocked on my door, I answered it.

“Damn Liam, what happened to you? You look like someone died. And why are wearing the same clothes you wore yesterday. We have rehearsal today.” Louis said.

I just looked at them, and didn’t say anything. I just walked into my apartment, they followed. They saw him there, looking the same as yesterday when I found him. “

“OH MY GOD! SOMEONE CALL 911!” Zayn yelled. It all went to a blur until the ambulance came. It was no use I thought. He was already dead. There was nothing that anyone could to save him.....

~Flashback over~

“Liam, it’s your turn, Liam? You alright?” Louis said as he passed me the mic. I nodded.

“Everybody, I would like to sing you a song. I feel as though Niall wouldn’t want us to be sad, he was always making people laugh. So this song has a happy side to it. It”s called Stole My Heart.”

Harry:Waiting for a girl like you

Liam:The night shines, its getting hot on my shoulder, I don’t mind, this time it doesn’t matter, cause your friends they look good but you look better, cause don’t you know all night, I’ve been waiting for a boy like you to come around, round, round.

Harry: Under the lights tonight you turned around and you stole my heart with just one look, when I saw your face, I fell in love, take a minute-

Liam: Boy, to steal my heart tonight!

Harry(smiling): With just one look, yeah!

Liam(smiling know that he knows harry knows): Been waiting for a boy like you! I’m weaker, my worlds fall and they hit the ground. Oh life, come on head don’t you fail me now. I start to say I think I love but I make no sound. You know cause all my life, I’ve been waiting for a boy like you to come around.

Harry:Under the lights tonight you turned around and you stole my heart, with just one look, when I saw your face

Liam: I fell in love take a minute boy, to steal my heart tonight!

Harry: With just one look yeah!

Liam: Been waiting for a boy like you!

Zayn(smiling now as well): There is no other place that I would rather be, than right here with you tonight, as we lay on the ground I put my arms around you, and we can stay here tonight. Cause there is so much, I wanna say, I wanna say...

Harry: Under the light tonight you turned around and you stole, with just one look, when I saw your face, I fell in love,

Liam: Take a minute boy, to still my heart tonight!

Harry: Under the lights tonight, you turned around and you stole my heart, with just one look, when I saw your face, I fell in love.

Liam: Take a minute boy, to steal my heart tonight!

Harry: With just one look yeah!

Liam: Been waiting for a boy like you!...Been waiting for a boy like you!

Everyone started cheering, and even Louis,Harry, and Zayn seemed happy. But I wasn’t, I had just come out through song, and no one noticed, I needed to make this right.

“Uh, excuse me everybody, can you all just quiet down for a moment? I have an announcement to make.”

Zayn looked at me, “What is it Liam?”

“I’m gay.” I said, and everyone looked shocked.

“And, I was in love with Niall, no, I still am. I never told him, and he died without knowing. I was going to tell him the night he died. It took so much courage to even think about telling him. But he was gone too soon, and he will be missed. I love you Niall, and I always will. Rest in peace buddy.”

I was about to walk off stage when Louis pulled me back on stage.

“Liam, why didn’t you tell us?”

“Because, I was afraid that you guys would hate me, especially Niall.” I said holding back tears.

“Well we have something to tell you too, Niall loved you too, he just was scared to ever tell you.”Harry added.

I fell to my knees, sobbing right there on stage, not caring what people thought of me. The love of my life had slipped away, and he felt the same. This is my fault, if only I had told sooner, he never would’ve killed himself. Now I finally know why he did it. He couldn’t handle the pain anymore. He did to escape from the pain that I caused him. It looks daddy direction doesn’t know what to do anymore....

I have to run away, away from all of this, I can’t do this, I need to start over, somewhere no one will ever find me. I will change my name. It shall be Sean Anderson. Maybe, if I’m gone long enough, time will take me back to do it all differently. Just take me back. Because I love you, I love you Niall Horan, and you love me too.
