Chris POV
I walked into a store with my friend Mijo. We had a day off, and we were just walking around L.A for the day. I was looking at some sneakers, and as I looked up, a girl caught my eye. She looked so familiar. The dark brown hair, the hazel eyes, the bright smile. It had to be her.
*Flashback*
“I’m so excited Chris! We’re both going to UVa next week, the school of our dreams! We’ve been talking about this since 6th grade!” Heather said, screaming and jumping all over the place.
”Heather, we need to talk,” I said pulling her down on the couch next to me.
Her smile faded. “What’s going on?” She asked, looking worried.
“I landed a record deal. So, I’m not going to be at UVa with you anymore,” I said. Her lip began to tremble, and her eyes filled with tears.
“What? When did you decide this?” She yelled.
“Since the beginning of summer,” I said. “Before you get mad, the only reason I didn’t tell you when I found out, was because you would’ve been upset all summer,” I explained.
“You thought waiting would make it better? You should’ve just told me in the first place!” Tears were running down her face.
“I’m sorry Heather.” I pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back, trying to comfort her. “I’ll call you every night, & I’ll be texting you throughout the day. It’ll be okay.”
*End of Flashback*
I had broken that promise. After a while, I stopped calling & texting her. For five years, I didn’t contact her in anyway. I felt terrible. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to talk to her, it was my girlfriend, Kae. She didn’t want me talking to any other females. She knew how close me and Heather once were, and she was afraid I would cheat on her with Heather when I went to visit home. She was smart to do that, because I have had feelings for Heather for the longest time. The only reason I was with Kae, was because I needed to take my mind off of Heather. I never loved her. Now that I finally found Heather, I could make things right between us.
I walked up to Heather. She was smiling and laughing with two girls I didn’t know. I tapped on her shoulder. “Heather?” I said.
She turned around, and the smile left her face.
“What do you want?” She snapped at me.
“C’mon Heather, don’t be like that,” I said to her, giving her a hug.
“How am I supposed to be Chris? You don’t talk to me for five years, and you think you can just walk up to me and act like nothing happened? Some “best friend” you are,” She said.
“We need to talk. Let’s go, I’m taking you to lunch,” I said.
She rolled her eyes and followed me out the door.
We sat down inside of a restaurant not far from the store we were just at.
“So, how’ve you been?” I asked her.
“Look, we came here so you could explain yourself, not so we could make small talk,” she said. She still had that same attitude from five years ago.
“Alright, alright. My girlfriend, Kae, wasn’t comfortable with me talking to you, or any other females for that matter. I felt terrible about it, & I really am sorry. You know how much I care about you. We’ve been through way too much to throw it all away because of this. Forgive me?” I pleaded.
She looked at me for a few seconds, without saying anything. “I forgive you Chris.” She smiled at me.
“So tell me, what are you doing in L.A?” I asked her.
“I’m a makeup artist now,” she said, still smiling.
“You always said you would be one. You’re living your dream,” I said.
After an hour at the restaurant, we decided to leave.
“How about you come over to my place? We can catch up some more,” I suggested.
“Sure”, she replied. We walked to my car, and I drove to my house. I was glad to have my best friend back.
