I woke up in my bedroom I share with my brother Gilbert. Are we close, kinda? He's got Arnie to take care of. Don't get me wrong, I have a good family but it goes downhill sometimes, it involves a lot of Arnie. Actually, me and Gilbert are close but not like we used to be. At least not until Arnie was born. I love Arnie, I have nothing against him, it's just stressful for all of us you know.

It was my turn to make breakfast. Mama said I cook better than my other sisters Amy and Ellen. I make the best eggs. You know why? Because I make them cheesy, Amy puts a lot of pepper in the eggs she makes. Ellen ran downstairs.

"Trudy, where's my rollers?"

"I don't have them, ask Amy."

"Fine."

She ran back upstairs. Mama woke up in the living room.

"Kids? Who's in the kitchen?"

"It's me Mama."

"Trudy, baby, will you also make a pot of coffee?"

"Yes Mama."

"And go wake Gilbert, or he'll be late getting ready for work."

"Yes Mama"

I walked to the edge of the stairs.

"Gilbert, time to get up!" I yelled.

I walked back to the kitchen.

"I'm making coffee now Mama, while the eggs are still cooking."

'Good honey, good."

Gilbert walked downstairs.

"Morning," he said.

"Morning Gilbert."

He gave Mama a hug, then me a hug too.

"It's your turn to cook, yay," he said as he kissed me on the cheek.

"It's not stuffed with pepper like Amy's," Mama said.

Ellen walked downstairs with rollers in her hair.

"Morning guys."

"Morning-"

Arnie walked downstairs.

"Good morning Arnie," I said.

He smiled and waved at me like a little kid. Arnie can be sweet and adorable sometimes.

"Hi Mama!"

"Hi honey," Mama replied.

"I smell something delicious!" Arnie said laughing.

"It's Trudy's cooking buddy. She's today's chef," Gilbert said.

Arnie laughed again.

"Chef Trudy, when is it ready?"

"Not long Arnie, be patient," I replied.

"She takes longer to cook," Ellen whined.

"Well, you turn the stove on high, making it burn."

"Ellen, you keep turning that stove on high like that, you're gonna burn the whole house down," Mama said.

"No wonder Ellen's the fastest cook in the world, you don't even give it time to actually cook," Gilbert said.

Ellen stuck her tongue out at Gilbert.

"You call that a defense?" I asked her.

Gilbert laughed at my remark.

"I gotta go, Trudy, just give me a piece of toast, I'm gonna be late."

We said our goodbyes as Gilbert left. We brought the table to the living room for breakfast.

"We need to have just one day of peace, just one whole day," Mama said.

"I hear you Mama," I replied.

"Trud, what're you gonna do with your life, you're twenty three years old. It's been years since you were kicked out of school, you need your criminal record cleared so you can get yourself a job, your first crime was a decade ago."

"I'm working on it Mama, I'm still waiting."

"Endora is a small town, whether it's cleared or not, they'll always know you as the town's delinquent. It'll be impossible to get anywhere in this town," Ellen said.

"I'm trying, I'm really trying."

"Try Trudy, try. Good sister!" Arnie said.

"I am."

I tickled Arnie, he let out a burst of laughter. I noticed Amy and Mama smiling at Arnie.

"Arnie, how about if we visit Gilbert at Lamson's after lunch?" I asked.

"Yeah, we go see Gilbert!"
